More Weeks of Quarter 4 and SY 2022-2023!
We can do this! We have a lot coming up and thank all of you for your planning and implementation of so many wonderful learning activities for your students. Last week we had tree planting, firefighters’ visit and Buddy Class egg hunts just to name a few. We cannot wait to see the Art Show this week! Thank you to ALL of YOU for making learning so engaging for our students at Ho‘okele!
Our JPO’s have their Field Day this Friday-Thank you to Ashley Contreras, Mr. Jason, Ms. Kristen Lono and Elizabeth Okamoto for working with our JPO to prepare and support them in their service to our school. We really appreciate it and wish them luck at the upcoming competition!
PHISHING Alert: Please be aware that several of you may have received emails from a fake gmail account that looks like it came from Bryan Rankie. If you get an email, check the sender address carefully as it is not from his actual Ho‘okele account. The individuals were asking staff to send Steam gift cards... If you get a suspicious email, DO NOT RESPOND and forward to: phishing-report@k12.hi.us. Never give out any personal information or credit card information over emails.
BTW: Mr. Rankie has assured us he is NOT in need of gift cards at this time. |

We have a new HALA TREE!
Governor Green has declared the month of April as "NATIVE HAWAIIAN PLANT MONTH" and our 4th grade students planted the native hala tree in our piko for all to watch it grow. Check out more information about native plants and share with your students. PLEASE REINFORCE respect and care for our new Hala Tree by reminding students not to touch or play near the area as it grows its roots at Ho‘okele! |

ICYMI WOW Wednesday #9 4/5/2023 From Principal Toy Please check our weekly inspiration from what's happening in classrooms and also schoolwide updates.
Inspiration: You may have noticed one of our original Hala trees sadly did not make it in the Piko circle. We are so blessed to have received a donation of a new baby Hala tree from the Garden Club of Honolulu (TGCH)! Mahalo to Head Custodian Michael Bio and our 4th grade team for coordinating tomorrow's planting of this newest edition to our school campus!
Inspiration: This week is National Assistant Principals Week! Please be sure to share some appreciation for VP Mindy Pamatigan and VP Tammi Umeno for their tireless work on campus. On a daily basis, Mindy and Tammi wear multiple hats as they secure classroom coverage, respond to student misbehaviors, provide teachers EES feedback, help facilitate IEP meetings, create schedules, communicate with families and MORE to support Ho'okele. We are so grateful for their every day efforts as essential members of our community.
Updates: Tentative Teaching Lines: TATP #2 for tenured teachers is from April 12 to April 18. As a result, I will be posting an updated tentative teaching lines by EOD on Monday, April 10. The printed list will replace the older version by the teacher sign-in sheet at the front office. Labels at Fisher Hawaii: As teachers have been securing school supplies at Fisher for next year, we've been informed that a packet of labels is no longer under $50. As a result, Cindy has graciously offered to order for the whole school next year so teachers do not have to worry about the $50 limit. Please see Cindy with any questions. SPED Teaching License: The University of Hawai`i at West O`ahu (UHWO) has received funding to recruit and train up to 15 Hawai`i DOE teachers to obtain their Special Education Licensure at the UHWO. Tuition stipends are available to cover the entire cost of tuition. The time to complete this program is one year and begins June 12, 2023. Please see the attached flyer for more information. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 21, 2023. Hawai'i Teacher Celebration: HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union is sponsoring school staff and their families to a free event at Honouliuli Middle School on April 29. There will be food/drink vendors, live entertainment, and giveaways. If interested, please RSVP here.
