Updates for Week of August 9, 2021
Faculty and Staff Updates
1st Week update letter 8/6/2021
We have so much gratitude for all of you and thank you for expending so much of your time and energy to get us through a challenging first week back to school. We saw everyone making adjustments and providing support from the PTA, adult supervisors, cafeteria, custodial staff, office, EAs, teachers, students and their families. Please continue to support each other as we have seen how even a slight change can have a trickle down effect and impact others. We are truly in this together!!
Hopefully, our students will be familiar enough with our routines and expectations that we can continue to improve our operations with practice. We appreciate teachers continuing to remind them of the expectations, especially for after school pick up, which seemed to be our greatest challenge.
We also appreciate the creative brainstorming and generation of ideas and solutions to our challenges coming from so many of you. We have an amazing group of lifelong learners who exemplify the problem based learning process this week. You are amazing models for your students!
KINDERGARTEN starts this week. Although we have seen progress with our procedures, we will now be adding about 113 kindergarten students to the afterschool pick up and morning drop off routines this week. Be prepared for some additional challenges as we adjust for our youngest keiki.
Please see your email from Laura Brown regarding yard duty adjustments made after week one. We are working with Mike on marking off the playground areas so it is easier to visual the space your students are assigned to. Remember this week is a new location, so please help your class find their new area for first recess this week. Please also review the rules and recess challenge information in the student section.
We have HGL Meeting on Monday followed by home group meetings on Wednesday this week after school.
Please continue to be safe and take care of yourselves. If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to reach out to an administrator.

Updates for Students
Aloha Students!
Now that you have been in school for 1 week, we are very pleased with how you are getting used to our new normal of social distancing and mask wearing. We know you like to mingle with other classes but one of our important strategies to keep you safe is to keep you in your ‘ohana bubble during class, at recess and at lunch.
Please talk to your parents about where to meet them after school. A letter was sent out to families on Friday with some updated information regarding drop off and pick up. It can get very crowded afterschool, so if you need help, please ask any adult wearing a vest for assistance, or come to the office. We are happy to help you!
Based on your feedback, we are looking for some more exciting recess activities. For this week, we are offering up a very special Recess Challenge!
Each homeroom can submit a COVID safe recess game that can be played in your assigned recess area. Work with your classmates as a homeroom tribe.
Winners from each grade level will be able to have playtime in the court for August 17, 18 and 19 recesses. All submissions will be available for classroom ideas at recess. Each homeroom may submit up to 3 activities for consideration.
Here is the criteria:

Submissions may be done by Google Doc or Slides or video.
A description of the activity, rules and materials needed is required.
All activities must include social distancing and safety considerations.
