Faculty and Staff Updates
Aloha!!
Welcome to our new grade 4 teacher, Alexis Flanders who starts this week for Depolis/Husted’s class. Thank you to Tsulan for starting the year off for the students!
Attestation of COVID-19 Testing or Vaccination due Aug. 30
In order to comply with Gov. David Ige's emergency proclamation, all employees must submit documentation attesting to a negative COVID-19 test or vaccination via http://ehr.k12.hi.us before the start of your scheduled workday on Monday, Aug. 30.
Mahalo to those employees who have already complied with the COVID-19 testing mandate requirements ahead of the deadline. If you are unable to comply with this requirement, please inform your supervisor as soon as possible as you will be unable to work on Monday, Aug. 30.
For more information, reference the Aug. 13, 2021, memorandum. (Please note the original deadline in the memo was extended to Aug. 30.)
See instructional graphic below and access quicksheet reference guides here.
HIDOE employees may contact the IT help desk during normal working hours at (808) 564-6000 if they are experiencing log-in issues. Neighbor island users may call the HATS line at 8-1-808-692-7250. Support requests may also be made online via ServiceNow at http://help.hidoe.org.
Fire Drill On Monday and Tuesday we will conduct our first monthly fire drills for August.
Monday 8/30 at 8:15-8:20 am
Grades PreK through 2nd grade, Med Frag and FSC
Tuesday 8/31 at 8:15-8:20 am
Grades 3-5
To minimize the disruption of the actual fire bell, we will conduct this drill using an announcement over the speaker system and NOT the fire bell system. If your grade level is not practicing the exit drill, you may ignore the announcement by lowering the volume on your phone for that block of time. See your email for additional details.
In the event you hear the actual fire alarm bells, please exit the building.
***Please note on WEDNESDAY after school at 1:30 pm, the alarm system will be tested. You will not need to evacuate during that test.
Emotional Well-Being The social-emotional and mental health for our students is of the utmost importance. Should any student experience difficulties, please reach out to that studentʻs counselor for follow-up and support.
For our staff who may be experiencing social-emotional and/or mental health issues, please feel free to access our departmentʻs Employee Assistance Program.
Bell Schedule/Recess: Thank you for your patience in working out the details of our bell schedule, especially for recess and lunch. We know it can be difficult to fit everything into such a tightly scheduled day and appreciate your problem solving and solutions. I will be following up with your grade level for feedback on any adjustments. As a reminder, recess time should not be withheld as a punishment for behavior, please consider other consequences as part of your classroom behavior management plans. This is really important to get students out for the 15 minute recess, since many of you are using the 2nd recess as a break/transition time. Feel free to ask about options for this.
EES Updates: The EES lists are still being worked on at the state level. We will inform you when we have our lists and follow up with impacted teachers on cycle.
Traffic Updates are still being finalized for changes to after school pick up. For now it remains as is, should you have any parents asking. We hope to have more information out this week.
Enjoy your week!

Student Updates
Aloha Students!
Fire Drill Practice: This week we will practice our fire drill. Please follow the instructions of your teacher for this very important practice on what to do in case of a fire emergency.
Resources Postponed: Unfortunately, we have to postpone our planned resource classes for now. We will be working with your teachers to continue to offer you opportunities for PE and library and special activities. We hope to bring back our resource day rotations in the near future.
Practice spreading kindness to others. Do something nice for a classmate, your teacher and/or your parents. When you see a VP or counselor, we would love for you to share how you helped spread kindness this week!
Stay healthy and safe! We love having you in school, but please stay home if you are sick.
