Updates for Week of September 30, 2019
Information for Teachers and Staff
This week is Custodian Appreciation Week: A special thank you this week to our custodial staff for their dedication and hard work to keep our campus safe and clean! Words cannot express our attitude of gratitude!
To Mike, Walter, Kevin, Al, Erickson, and Michelle from EVERYONE:
THANK YOU to Mrs. Yamada for helping guide us for the past couple of weeks! Your added support has helped and inspired us! Mrs. Yamada’s last day is October 4.
On Wednesday, please send CARES awardees to picture taking in D106 at 8:00 for lower and 9:10 for upper. As a reminder, CARES award winners should sit next to the center aisle so they can easily move towards the stage when their names are called. The seating is linked below.
Uniforms need to be worn on a daily basis, except for announced special events. Lately we are noticing students not wearing uniforms and are asking for your help to reinforce this safety policy. Please note and reinforce the following:
*Allow service club shirts only on meeting days (JPO-Wednesdays/Library club-Meeting Days)
*No SongFest shirts, track, dance team shirts, robotics, musical UNLESS a special event has been indicated.
*Enforce school uniform shirts daily-if students are wearing jackets, they must be wearing uniform underneath. Loaners are available from VP and health room. Classrooms had also been given loaners in the past. If you need classroom loaners, please notify a VP.
*All clothes need to meet dress code policy. We’ve noticed students wearing shorts that do not meet policy guidelines.
We will be sending out a reminder to parents and also requesting donations of old uniforms.
Here is the policy for our school provided to parents in the handbook.
Dress Code and School Uniform Policy
Uniforms help us easily identify our students and maintain safety and security of our campus and your children.
Students are expected to wear their Ho‘okele Elementary School Uniform shirt DAILY except on school designated special event days. Uniform shirts shall not be altered.
Students’ shorts or skirts shall be no shorter that the middle finger when arms are placed next to the body. Pants or bottoms that drag on the ground or stay below the hips are not permitted.
All clothing should also meet the following criteria:
*No transparent fabrics, spaghetti straps, bared midriffs chest or back
*Clothing and/or accessories with inappropriate references to violence, drugs, sex and gang-related activities are UNACCEPTABLE.
*No heelys or other wheeled shoes can be worn on campus
Student IDs are considered part of the school uniform and must be worn visibly during the school day.
Violations of the Dress Code and School Uniform Policy will be addressed through parent notification and requests for alternative clothing. If available, a loaner shirt will be provided. Loaners must be returned at the end of the school day. Disciplinary action under Chapter 19 may also be applied.
Jackets may be worn over top of a student’s uniform T-Shirt.
A friendly reminder: If you have fliers advertising fundraisers or events for your grade level or extracurricular, please make sure you take down materials after the event is over. Our custodial staff thanks you!
Makerspace Orientations continue this week, schedule is attached below. What exciting opportunities for our students!
Reminder: Teachers doing IPDP-your plan is due to be posted on PDE3 by 10/4/2019 at 8:30 am for admin approval.

Next Week
Information for Students
This week we would like to honor and say thank you to our school custodians! Our school custodians work extremely hard on a daily basis, year round, to ensure that our campus is clean and safe. You can show your appreciation by saying thank you, but also by making an ongoing effort to clean up your area, leaving it in the same condition or better than when you found it!
For example, if you see rubbish on the ground-pick it up and throw it away, even if it isn’t yours. Keep our bathrooms clean and do not use more paper towels or toilet paper than needed. If you see something that needs to be fixed, report it to an adult.
Congratulations this week go to our CARES award winners! We look forward to the first CARES award ceremony this week! What an honor to have this special event with your family!
Please remember to wear your school uniforms on a daily basis and follow our uniform policy. Your teachers will be giving you reminders of the expectations this week.
We hope you have learned a lot this quarter. Your teachers are looking forward to meeting your parents during parent-teacher conferences after the break to share your report cards with them.
Enjoy your Fall Break and we will see you on October 14!
