Updates for the Week of August 25, 2025

It’s Resource Week!

Grade 3, Kindergarten and Grade 4 will start their Resources this week.

We are excited about our Resource teaching team this year and they are very excited to start serving our school and students in their roles.  Please help support them for the first few weeks by reminding students about expected behaviors, especially as we work out the new schedules and rotations.

Here is who and what to expect:

🎨Ms. Kari Zigan: Art

Ms. Sheila Tomas: Music 🎶

👟Ms. Katrina Kubo:  PE

Kumu Lopeti (Robert Mokiao):  Hawaiian Studies 🌺

🤝Ms. Rita Wilcox:  Coding/Amazing Shake

Ms. L (La’akea Laimana):  STEM 🔍

The Resource Teachers will focus the first weeks on introducing themselves and the expectations for their classes.  As a reminder, their classes are 35-40 minutes, so we do hope our students will honor the time by being attentive listeners and showing mutual respect on this very exciting day of learning for them.

Ms. Tomas is excited to have a music room this year in B102, next to Ms Zigan’s art room.

Ms. Kubo will be in the courts for PE and Ms. Wilcox, Kumu Lopeti and Ms. L will be in the grade level classrooms for their instruction.  They have tentative plans for the rotations, however, please be patient as they figure out the best and safest way to coordinate the transitions between classes, recesses, lunch etc.  4 out of 6 are new to the role this year, as a friendly and kind reminder.

The team will use B102 as a working area and all have Ho‘okele emails.  There is also a box for the group in the main office.

If you have a folder for student accommodations or emergency action plans, please be sure to share that with them, labeled confidential.

Thank you and welcome to our Resource Team!

Subject: ✨ Join Our Preschool SFT Team: A Vital Learning Opportunity! ✨

Aloha General Education Teachers,

Are you interested in understanding the critical early steps of specialized support for our youngest learners? This is a unique opportunity to contribute to and learn about the foundational Special Education (SPED) referral process for keiki aged three and up.

A Crucial Professional Development Opportunity

We invite you to participate in preschool Student Focused Team (SFT) meetings. This is an excellent chance to gain invaluable insight into the SPED referral process. No prior experience is required; your fresh perspective and dedication to teaching are paramount. This experience will significantly enhance your professional toolkit and benefit your teaching career.

Your Support is Essential

This year, our school faces significant increases in both overall enrollment and SPED referrals and caseloads. Our dedicated SPED PreK teachers are managing a high volume of meetings per referral and child, and our dually certified SPED and inclusion teachers are also handling larger caseloads.

To ensure our most vulnerable keiki receive timely and effective support, we are opening this opportunity to all interested general education teachers. Your involvement will directly help our preschool students thrive.

Ready to Make a Difference?

If you are eager to learn, contribute, and impact our preschool students positively, please contact Sheldon Mow or Janae Cole by to express your interest.  A rotation list will be created to help share this opportunity amongst those interested in learning.

We look forward to partnering with you on this rewarding journey!

Support for our Military Students and Families is Available from Ms. Kat Jones

For those who don’t know me, I’m Kat, the Military & Family Life Counseling (MFLC) Counselor. I provide confidential, non-medical counseling to service members and their families, focusing on challenges unique to military life. I also offer educational support, group briefings, and presentations on military life topics. I cover issues like anger, aggression, bullying, conflict resolution, divorce, feelings, self-esteem, separation, sibling and parent relationships, and time management. A brochure detailing the services is included with this email. To receive support, I require written parental consent, which is included in this email. Students only need to fill this out once, not yearly. I will try to send you a list of students for whom I have consent by the end of this week. Please feel free to give the consent form to any military students and families who are interested.

For Lunch Bunch groups, I plan to start seeing students next week. My goal is weekly meetings, but I may be unavailable at times. Students should only come to the stage if I am present, and must wait for me before leaving the cafeteria. If I am not there, students must remain in the cafeteria.

Tuesdays – Grades 1, 2, and 5

Thursdays – Grades Kindergarten, 3, and 4

Private Lunch Bunch will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Students must schedule in advance and may bring up to two friends.

Lunch Bunch is a privilege, and participation is optional. Please let me know if a student is not able to participate.

I am available for individual sessions throughout the day and will work with your schedule. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and let me know if I can help you in any way.

Thank you!
