Updates for Week of October 30, 2023

Thank you PTA and all of the faculty and staff who supported our Trunk or Treat on Friday Night!  It was a huge turnout of families and an overall SPOOKTACULAR event.  Please share your feedback with PTA for future event planning.  Don’t forget about the Regal Fundraiser pick up this Saturday!

ICYMI

From Mr. Rankie (Email 10/27/2023 has all mentioned attachments)

StriveHI - The 2023 Strive HI School Performance Reports were revised to include certain Hawaiian Language diacritical marks that were not in the reports initially provided. No results or data were changed and they remain final as is.  I have included Ho‘okele's updated StriveHI Results in this email.

Campbell-Kapolei Stargazing Event - Honouliuli Middle School is hosting a stargazing event on November 3, 2023 from 6:00 - 8:00pm for K-12 families in the Campbell - Kapolei Complex Area. Currently 46 families from Ho‘okele have registered using this flyer. The event will accept registrations up until the day of the event.

The event staff is also looking for volunteers from each school to support.  If any staff from our school is able and interested to volunteer, please complete this form by Wednesday, November 1. Volunteers are requested to report at 5:30pm.

HPU Economics - Free Online PD Course for All Teachers - Gerard Dericks from Hawaii Pacific University will be running a free online PD course to help teachers of all subjects and grade-levels bring more economics into their classroom. The course runs this Spring Term, Tuesdays 5:15-8:10pm January 9th-February 27th 2024, and provides 3 graduate-level university credits which are eligible to count towards HIDOE salary reclassification. Furthermore, all teachers will receive a 100% scholarship from HPU. This flyer provides further details about the course and instructions on how to enroll.

2023-2024 School Year Guidelines for Reclassification of Teachers - Please find the attached teacher reclassification guidelines for the 2023-2024 School Year (SY). Academic and Department Professional Development credits used for teacher reclassification should relate to standards-based instruction aligned with the school’s academic plan. These credits should impact the school’s effort to improve student learning and the teacher's performance in their teaching area; therefore, it is important that teachers enroll in coursework that meets these goals with the guidance of their principal/administrator. The current 2023-24 SY guidelines may be found using this link.

VP Carli Miyashiro will be cross training at Campbell High School from October 30, 2023-November 17, 2023.  She is expected to return on November 20, 2023.

During VP Miyashiro’s absence, VP April Hosino will be the primary admin contact for Grades 2 and 3, assuming her administrative responsibilities.

Should additional administrative support be required, VP Melinda Pamatigan will assist with Grade 2 and VP Tammi Umeno will assist with Grade 3.

Aloha VP Hosino and A Hui Hou VP Miyashiro!

Above is the link for the Broadcast folder. Please click on the date of the Broadcast you want to watch.  All the videos will be listed in this folder once they are completed for the week.

(Teachers, please update your GAFE spreadsheet).

Check it out for student updates!

Parent-Teacher conferences continue this week.  Please note the earlier start times for PLCs and resource classes due to the change in schedule.  PTC survey slips will be provided and families will be emailed a link on the last day of PTC.  Flyers will also be posted around campus.  The teacher with the highest return rate will receive a special incentive!

Take full advantage of these in person conferences to connect, engage and inspire your families!

Recess equipment:  Please remind students that they need to be responsible for returning recess equipment to the carts.  Our adult supervisors’ primary role is supervision for the safety of students and having to pick up after students after every recess takes away from their ability to supervise adequately as the next grades are coming out.  Thank you for your support with reminding your students of this expectation.

From Mrs. Ramey:

Hello Grades K, 1, and 2,

Mark your calendars! Newbery and Caldecott Honor Winner, Grace Lin, will visit your classrooms virtually via Google Meet on Wednesday, 11/29, from 8:15-8:45. 😊 Grace will read the story Once Upon a Book (2023), do a "Draw Along", and have a Q&A with your students.

Grace Lin has won numerous prestigious awards including the Newbery Medal (2010), Caldecott Honor (2019), Theodor Geisel Honor (2011), Children’s Literature Legacy Award (2022), and was recognized as a Champion of Change for Asian American and Pacific Islander Art and Storytelling.

Our library (and Sora) has many of Grace Lin's books for you to borrow and read with your students. For a complete list, visit her website HERE. I will provide the Google Meet link for you as soon as Grace provides it to me. Additional details about logging into the Google Meet and projecting the Meet with sound will be emailed to you closer to 11/29.

Grace Lin is excited to "visit" Ho'okele and read to our K-2 students., and we are honored to "Meet" her. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
