Updates for Week of October 23, 2023

This week Wednesday will be our first School Spirit Wednesday.  Students and staff are invited to wear ANY school shirt (Song Fest, Grade level, JPO, Track team, library club, etc…)every WEDNESDAY.

SEL-This week’s lessons from the Second Step Bullying Prevention unit help students identify how to recognize bullying for grades K-3 and recognize, report and refuse bullying for grades 4-5.  The links to these lessons can be found in an email from Elizabeth Okamoto dated October 15, 2023. Parent-Teacher conferences start this week.  Please remind families of the early release times starting on 10/24.  Also, please note the earlier start times for PLCs and resource classes due to the change in schedule.  PTC survey slips will be provided and families will be emailed a link on the last day of PTC.  Flyers will also be posted around campus.  The teacher with the highest return rate will receive a special incentive! Take full advantage of these in person conferences to connect, engage and inspire your families!   From Your HES Attendance Team (HAT) Please use this FORM during Quarter 2 to report any student absences that parents/guardians report to you.  -Only fill out the form if you have been in contact with the parent/guardian. -Please bookmark this form for future reference -Parents may also report the student absences by calling the office or by filling out the form that is emailed to parents of absent students. However, the teacher and parents still need to be in contact directly. -Please contact parents if there are 3 consecutive or multiple absences to clarify reasons for absences.  -If you cannot reach parent/s via seesaw or email, contact parent/s via telephone.

Trunk or Treat is this Friday!  Thank you to the PTA and all of the support from staff to provide this family activity and fundraiser for the school.  The plans are set-but we’re still looking for more Trunkers-Please talk to Sheila Tomas or reply to the PTA email sent on 10/20 if you are interested in volunteering or decorating your car for the event!   Volunteer times will be 5 - 7 pm (set up and start crew) and 7 - 9 pm (breakdown and clean up crew). If you are available for those times please let us know. Below are some of the areas we will need your assistance. 1.    Trunk-or-Treat parking lot- Patrol the area to assist participants with decorated cars, help with any trash, guide families to stay in this area and not wander throughout the campus, and man the front parking lot gate so cars do not drive in during the event. Also, monitor if people are using bikes or scooters to remind them to park those items in the racks. 2.   Back Parking Lot - Direct cars where to park. 3.    E-Building Bathrooms- Assist families in locating the bathroom, reminding families to only stay at the event and not wander onto any other areas of the campus, remind children to stay off the playground, pick up trash, etc. 4.    PTA Tent- Provide information and encourage families to volunteer for upcoming events throughout the school year, pass out candy, pick up trash, etc.
