Updates for Week of October 16, 2023

WELCOME BACK!  Guess What?!  We are midway through OCTOBER!  We hope you all stayed safe and healthy over the Fall Break and are ready to tackle the 2nd quarter! The Department of Education is encouraging everyone to join a national movement during National Bullying Prevention Month for inclusive, nurturing learning environments for all. To commemorate, orange bracelets (for students) and orange lanyards (for teachers) will be distributed to wear on Wednesday, October 18 to show your support that all students deserve to be safe in school, online and in the community. Items have been placed in your boxes.  Please distribute to your students on Wednesday, October 18.  Additionally, we encourage everyone to wear orange on Wednesday. Starting Wednesday, October 25, 2023, we will be permitting students and encouraging staff to wear any Ho’okele shirt on WEDNESDAYS.  In addition to a Ho‘okele uniform shirt, students may choose to wear club shirts, grade level shirts or shirts purchased from the Sideline Store to show school spirit. If you would like to purchase from the Ho‘okele Elementary School Sideline Store, the SPIRIT sale ends on 10/31. For a limited time you can save 25% on all orders with the coupon code of SPIRIT.

North Parking Lot -  30 additional paved parking stalls in the North Parking Lot were constructed over Fall Break.  There is a 2 week curing period where the new parking stalls will be inaccessible. The new parking stalls are projected to open between October 30 and November 3. In the meantime, please be aware that our South Field will be open for overflow parking.  Thank you for your understanding and working together as we create the additional permanent parking for our school community.

SEL-Please review the information emailed by Elizabeth Okamoto regarding the bullying Prevention Unit (10/3/2023). Wellness Reminders and Treats-With Halloween coming up, we will be sending out reminders to families about our wellness policy and students with severe food allergies to help curb some of the goodies being sent for distribution at school.  We are noticing that food items are not being individually wrapped and are being consumed on campus after school, leading to frosting, cupcake and candy wrappers all over campus.  We encourage families to follow the wellness guidelines and at minimum, if they are not sure about the food items meeting the guidelines, have them individually wrapped so students can take them home.  While we will send out a school wide reminder, please also help support this policy should parents ask permission to send food items to school for celebrations.  We know some parents may not ask and will send items expecting teachers to distribute them, however hopefully, continuing to spread a consistent message we will see less of this as Halloween and Holidays approach.

We do not have any faculty meetings scheduled for the next few weeks due to Home Group this week and Parent Teacher Conferences.  Please be sure to reach out if you need support or have questions.

Weekly Morning Broadcast

Starting this quarter, a weekly broadcast will be posted. Please show the video to your class during your Monday Morning Business. If you would like to feature your students in our broadcast or have a special event that you would like to share, please let Laura Brown know a week prior to the event. Thank you.
