Updates for Week of May 8, 2023

With the utmost gratitude, we thank all of our teachers and staff for your selfless dedication and ongoing focus on our students.  You embody our school CARES mission to Connect, Engage, Inspire, Serve and Succeed on a daily basis.  We appreciate the time you give, the thoughtful planning and the grit that you model to deliver a quality learning experience for our students, in and outside of the classroom.  Your unwavering support for Ho‘okele students is why you were selected to be a part of our team-and we are incredibly humbled by and thankful for the work you all do.  MAHALO!

Thank you to our Grade 5 Teachers for supporting our Outstanding Keiki this past Saturday at the
Kroc Center! It is awesome to have these celebrations back in place and we appreciate you being there for the students!

ICYMI WOW Wednesday #13  5/4/2023 From Principal Toy

May is truly here and a sprint to the finish of our school year together. Apologies for this very late update as I am catching up with this pace.

Please check our weekly inspiration from what's happening in classrooms and also schoolwide updates.

Inspiration: Shoutout to our Grades 3-5 for making it through their first few days of SBA Summative testing. I was definitely inspired to visit the 3rd grade wing when I saw doors decked out with positive messages to pump up our students. Shoutout to Jess, Meagan, Mel, Megan, Nikki, Ron, and Stacey for their creativity.

Inspiration: Mahalo to Ashley S. and Deb for coaching our 5th grade math team to victory at the Kapolei Middle School Math Invitational on Saturday! Ho'okele Elementary won first place in all three categories at the math meet and we could not be prouder of our students.

Updates:

  • Ho'okele Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week: Our fantastic PTA has worked hard to plan celebrations. Here is the flyer again to see what is in store.

  • Padlet Feedback: Thank you to all who added feedback to the Padlet from Wednesday regarding Panorama Staff Wellness Survey results. We are reviewing feedback and will be continuing the conversation next week -- stay tuned.

  • Interested in Administration? If you are interested in becoming a school administrator in the Hawai`i DOE, please see the attached file.  Interested individuals should have a conversation with an administrator prior to submitting your online application.

  • OG Training Schedule: As you continue making summer plans, here is a reminder of the Orton-Gillingham + Morphology training schedule. Let me know if you have any questions.

  • AAPI Month: May is Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, a time to celebrate and honor the contributions and achievements of AAPI communities throughout history. If interested in learning more and sharing in your classroom, please see the AAPI Memo and some AAPI Resources.

  • Mathematical Mindsets Summer Institute: There will be a three-day training this summer from June 13-15 at Kapolei Middle School designed to "Enhance teachers’ understanding of the mathematical mindsets teaching approach" and "Increase the capacity of teachers to implement effective pedagogy for utilizing a mathematical mindsets approach." See the attachment for more information; stipends will be provided.
