Updates for Week of May 29, 2023

Thank you for all of your hard work, dedication, and endless effort to provide an amazing school year for our students!  Watching students leave on the last day of school was incredible beyond words and FULL of emotions!  We have never seen so many students not wanting to leave their teachers and the school and who were literally in tears as they left campus for the last day of the school year.  Even their parents commented about how much they love school, the teachers and staff and it truly was a moving moment for everyone…  (Except maybe the car line which was at a stand still as the kids reluctantly shuffled off of campus!) In all seriousness and with utmost gratitude,  MAHALO for caring so much and perpetuating the love of learning for our Ho‘okele students.   You have all embodied our vision and mission to  Connect, Engage, Inspire, Serve and Succeed!   YOU are appreciated! THANK YOU Principal Leslie Toy for navigating us through the school year! We appreciate your leadership, positivity and focus on students. You always have a home and ‘ohana at Ho‘okele!

And so here is our weekly inspiration from what's happening in classrooms and also schoolwide updates. Inspiration: Our fourth Ho'okele Song Fest was truly a testament to EVERYONE working together. The students looked amazing, sounded great, and spread joy to all spectators. This is a result of MONTHS of work by all of YOU in helping them practice, ensuring updates were sent out, gathering forms, distributing shirts, and reinforcing expectations. I cannot thank you enough. Please share any feedback you may have here. And a special mahalo to committee members Mindy, Tammi, Laura, Elizabeth, Katie, Regina, Ashley, Joanne, Ashley, Angie, and our FEARLESS CHAIR, Jill.   Updates: Good Idea Grants: The Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation’s (PSHF) showcase for innovation, creativity, and helping all children to reach high levels of achievement is the Good Idea Grants Program. The Good Idea Grants Program is designed to enhance innovation in the classroom and challenge teachers to think creatively and boldly. Mini-grants for public school teachers of up to $3,000 provide the needed financial resources not available through usual government channels.  Detailed instructions, selection criteria, and application forms can be found at the PSHF website at https://pshf.org/good-idea-grants/.  To submit an online application, click on the “Apply Now” link to start the process.  The deadline to submit a proposal is June 5, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Time. (PS - There are times where there are more funds than grant applications and/or the same applicants get awarded due to the low number of applications received. If you have a good idea, apply!) Updated Lines: The final lines before summer starts for teachers will be posted by Tuesday at noon by the sign-in sheet! Notice Regarding Cleaning Products: CAS Tajima forwarded a notification to us. PLEASE be mindful as we are organizing classrooms in the coming days and let me know if you have any questions: "Disinfectant wipes are widely used, more so now, due to the pandemic. See on the bottom of the picture where it's circled in red, “Keep out of reach of children.” Label is the law. Children should not be using any product that has this statement. Allowing them to do so is in violation of the law. (Children would be considered 0 – 12 years old.)" Summer: I will be still at Ho'okele as we move into summer and will let you all know via email when Principal Rankie is set to return as I transition off.
