Updates for Week of February 27, 2023

ICYMI WOW Wednesday #5 from Principal Toy (2/22/2023)

Here is our weekly inspiration from what's happening in classrooms and also schoolwide updates.

Inspiration: Over 20 Kapolei High School students came to campus today to share about their different Academies, which align to college and career readiness. Our students in Grades K-2 learned from their experiences and activities as part of a revamped Career Day! Activities included examining a CPR Dummy (Health Academy), seeing a robot demonstration (Engineering Academy), doing a gallery walk of artwork (Arts & Communication Academy) and trying on a firefighting jacket (Law and Public Safety Academy). Mahalo to Elizabeth, the Support Team, and our teachers for making this day possible.

Updates:

  • SCC & STEM Coach Positions: As you may have seen on the TATP #1 Posting, we have two vacancies next school year that may be of interest to current staff. If you are interested in the Student Services Coordinator role or one of our STEM Coach positions, please email me in the next week to discuss next steps and considerations.

  • TA Principal: I have received word from the district that Principal Rankie will be continuing at Kapolei Middle School for the rest of this school year. As such, I have the distinct privilege to continue working as TA Principal at Ho'okele Elementary for the remaining time in Semester 2. I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue collaborating with you all and am open to feedback for however I can be most supportive in the coming months.

  • Fire Drills have been scheduled for the rest of the school year and added to the faculty calendar:
    -- February 27 (Monday) at 1:15 PM
    -- March 31 (Friday) at 1:15 PM
    -- April 28 (Friday) at 8:15 AM
    -- May 18 (Thursday at 1:30 PM

  • Na Kumu Alaka'i: Na Kumu Alaka'i, also known as Teacher Leader Academy, is a HIDOE professional development cohort designed to strengthen participants’ skills to perform as teacher leaders at the school, district, or state level. Applications will be open the month of March. Please see here for more program information and here for the "Look Fors" that would ground discussion between teachers and administrators. Let me know if you have any questions or interest.

**Please anticipate Ms. Toy’s weekly WOW Wednesday reports with

updates for the mid-week!  Check out her email for the attachments.

Please remind your students that snack sharing is not allowed.  Lately students are bringing large bags of chips and candy and handing them out to friends at lunch and at recess.

Thank you for your support on this and also for helping promote healthier snack options with your students.

Here is the wellness policy with reference to this.  Thank you!
