Updates for the Week of January 10, 2022

Aloha Amazing Faculty and Staff,

From Principal Rankie:  As COVID cases remain high across the state we are having more and more families report cases to our school. In the event a family notifies you directly, please report it the following emails: pamela_chun@hookele.k12.hi.us administrators@hookele.k12.hi.us and clerical@hookele.k12.hi.us

In addition, this week we had an average of 10 absent teachers each day. If you will be out, please do your best to secure a sub in advance for your absence.

Finally, thank you for your continued commitment to our students. This is a challenging time, but I am constantly reassured as I see the interactions you have with our students. Thank you for that.

SUB PLANS: Teachers AND EAs:  Please always have sub plans prepared for your classroom in the event of an unexpected absence.   With it becoming increasingly difficult to secure subs, those providing coverage for your class appreciate it!

COVID GUIDANCE UPDATES:

For guidance we follow the Return to School Work / Criteria for the DOE, which is based upon the guidance from DOH. Currently it requires anyone who is positive to quarantine for a minimum of 5 days.

As a reminder, the definition for a close contact is students who were within 3 feet (approximately one arm length) of a student with COVID-19 infection for 15 minutes or more, over a 24-hour period. In the cafeteria setting, a close contact is defined as within 6 feet of a person with COVID-19 infection for a combined total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period (regardless of mask use).

From Counselors:  Thank you for sending home the Panorama SEL survey results before the winter break. If parents have questions about the results, please refer them to either Katie or Elizabeth. The survey is given 3x a year and is important in helping us identify and supporting students.

The window for the Winter benchmark administration of the Panorama SEL Survey is now open for your students to complete. Please administer the survey as a whole class, to ensure all students complete it. Please plan on spending 20-30 minutes to complete the survey with the class. The window for the survey ends on January28.

Here are the links you will need for the survey:

-Students will log in at  surveys.panoramaed.com/hidoe

-Students will enter their access code. Their access code is the 10-digit Student ID. Students will then see the survey they need to take.

-Survey Questions to read to students

-Students should answer survey questions independently without prompting or influence.

-Teachers  can explain vocabulary. If a student does not understand a question, they should skip it.

-Students need to hit the blue “Submit” button to enter their survey. If they do not hit this, their responses will not be saved.

-Proctor Script to use when administering the survey

If you have students who are not able to attend school and would like to assign it via SeeSaw, please email me and I can send you a link.

If you have a student whose parents "opted out" of them taking the survey, you will have received and email from me. Please ensure those students do not participate in the survey.

If you need assistance with administering this survey, please feel to contact Elizabeth.

As you completed your report cards this week, did you have any concerns about any of your students? If you have concerns about their academics or behaviors and think you might need more help than you can provide, please fill out this Request for Assistance form.

With PLCs and resource classes starting this upcoming week, please help prepare your students for behavior during resource classes.  We are pleased to have our Art Teacher, Ms. Marie Honiker and PE teacher Mr. Quinten Wills adding to Ms. Ramey, Ms. Brown, our counselors and Ms. Barilla for the resource rotations.  See schedule on the resource tab.  We will be doing our best to provide  support for the part time teachers during transitions.

Please keep in mind with counselors on rotation and much support staff filling in for vacancies, we will be doing our best to support you and your students on resource days, however, it may take a bit longer.  Please contact the office for emergencies.

The front office staff would like to send a few friendly reminders:

1.  Please send all doctor's notes and attendance notes from parents to the front office.  It is important to send them on a daily basis as a student may be denied access on campus without a medical clearance.

2.  The front office has received numerous interactions with parents who did not call the front office prior to arriving for early releases.  When the parent is asked if they called the office, they say that they notified the teacher.  The office staff would like to ask for your cooperation by letting them know if a student is leaving early so they have time to prepare the paperwork, shorten wait time, and make the process smoother.

3. Please be sure to SIGN IN in the binder daily before first recess.

SQS Survey Information:  Please refer to Laura Brown’s email (1/7/22) regarding the SQS survey.  Please send out the SQS information to families this week.

Website Information:  Our newly designed website will launch on Monday, January 10!  Please see an important email from Jill (1/8/22) with log in credentials for the staff portal.

Have a fantastic week!
