Updates for Week of February 8, 2021

As we get ready for this week...Here are some resources and information to help.

Drop off and Dismissal:  Linked is our campus map with drop off locations, times and start dates.

We are looking at using the areas around piko for waiting areas.  HGLs were sent an email with some of the information that we are planning to start with.  This map shows the tentative plans that we will be monitoring as each new grade level comes on board.  Plan to be flexible as we work on keeping kids separated and safe during these high traffic times.

If you are available to assist during drop off and dismissal times anytime over the next few weeks, we will gladly accept the help.  A lot of monitoring will be done the first few weeks to see where we need to adjust.  Thanks to the teachers for helping out by meeting students at the gate for your first week of in person learning. Hopefully after that we will get the systems in place for getting students safely to classrooms.

Inclusion:  Thank you to the teachers of inclusion classes who are helping us transition to the new schedule already starting next week.  That schedule was emailed to the inclusion teams last week and adult supervisors have been informed of the changes.  Thanks for your patience as we work on the new times for breaks and lunches.  Here is the map for break areas if your grade level is using the outdoor space.

Just like with any plans, plan for flexibility and changes!  If we have rain, the students will be brought to classrooms and will need to be inside.  The halls are too narrow to house them all, so please keep that in mind.

Mike and staff will be working on adding more wave and area markers to the field, gate and piko areas on Monday.

Uniforms:  We would love for all students to wear uniforms.  However, we realize not all may have purchased or have ones that still fit.  The ordering information is available on school website:  https://hookele.hidoe.us/dress-code--uniforms.html if parents ask about ordering.  While we encourage all students to wear them, we will not be strictly enforcing this and students could wear black shirts instead if they are unable to get them.  We have some loaners we could give out if needed for families who ask.  Dress code still applies.

ID's:  please discuss with your grade level if you want the office to print student IDs for your grade level.  Students will not need them for lunch operations and we know some grade levels have already moved forward with making their own.  Library will have the barcodes so will not need the ID's either.  The IDs provided at the start of the school year were mailed to families, so you can ask students to bring those IDs to school with them if they haven't lost it.  Let Mindy know if you want ID's printed by office or if you will make your own name tags.

Please remind families that no goody bags can be brought to school for distribution for health and safety reasons.

See Laureen’s email from 2/5  regarding the PTA Panda Express Fundraiser with instructions for ordering.  The fundraiser is on Thursday 2/11.

Leeward Community College has offered to partner with the HIDOE and prioritize vaccine appointment slots for our staff and service providers, beginning next week.

The LCC Vaccine POD (Point of Dispensing) will be accepting HIDOE appointments Tuesday through Friday, from Feb. 9–19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Appointments will be first come, first served, for those wanting their first dose only.

Thank you for being flexible as we adjust to everything new again.  What used to be so easy, we are learning all over with all new circumstances.  We have confidence and belief that we will succeed because we have such amazing educators on our team.  Enjoy every day!

Information for Students (Updates shared this week via Seesaw)

Aloha Students!!

No School on Monday, February 8 due to Teachers Institute Day!

This week will be our first week (2/9-2/12) of bringing back students for blended learning as we start with KINDERGARTEN!  We are so proud of our kindergarten students who will have their very first experiences on campus with this new phase of learning.  We look forward to seeing you on your A or B days and will be here to support you on your first days of in person learning at Ho‘okele!  Your teachers should have emailed you specific information about what you need to get started.

The following week (2/16-2/19) will be the start for our grade 1 students. Grades 2/3 return the week of 2/23 and lastly grades 4/5 return the week of 3/2.

By March, if everything goes well, we will have all students back on campus on their A/B blended learning assigned days.  This is an exciting time for all of us, but we will only be successful if everyone does their part to wear masks, social distance and stay home if you are sick.  Keep up the amazing work you are doing through distance learning when you are not in-person.

When you return to campus, please bring your school ID if you have it.  (They were mailed to students last Fall).  If you don’t have it, your teacher will provide you with one if needed.  We hope you will also wear your uniform shirt.  There is information on our website if you need new shirts.  One last reminder is that we will not be able to have students distribute any goody bags for celebrations due to health and safety concerns. Please remind your families if you have a special occasion coming up that we will not be able to pass out any goody bags.

Don’t forget, while you are on distance learning, you can still get free Grab and Go meals from our drive-thru pick up from 11:30-11:50 am.

PTA Panda Express Fundraiser is this Thursday 2/11 at the Kapolei Panda by Walmart.  Help support our school’s PTA by ordering for the Ho‘okele Fundraiser.  Tell your parents to watch for more information through email.

Have a great week!  We can’t wait to see you!
