Updates for Week of April 13, 2020
Hoping your days are not feeling like this!
Here are the weekly updates to help make sense of your days.
This week is Virtual Spirit Week-April 13-17! Please share with your families to encourage participation (faculty, staff, students and families) for another new first for Ho‘okele!
This will be sent out to families: Show your school spirit by participating in our Hookele Virtual Spirit Week-April 13-17. Take a photo of yourself and email it to our student council at hes_sc@hookele.k12.hi.us. By sending us your picture, you are permitting us to post it on our school’s social media. If you want, you can also upload it to your social media. Be sure to ask your families for permission before posting if you have your own accounts. Tag us @hookele808 and use the #hookelevirtualspiritweek to share your photos with us.
Teachers should have received an email on your DOE email with the HIDOE Guidance for Long-Term School Closures, Graduation, Promotion and Grading. (Linked to email from DOE gmail). This document provides many answers to questions you may have for promotion and grading. Of course it also opens up more questions which we will work through together. Please take some time to go through the information provided prior to Wednesday’s faculty meeting. You can send us any new questions you have prior.
If you are planning for your grade level to enter campus, you MUST notify admin in advance of your 2 hour window. This is so custodians can be notified for appropriate disarming and cleaning, as well as practicing social distancing. The dates and times for the grade levels who have responded are included on the calendar below. Let us know if you have updates and we cannot emphasize enough the importance of staying safe and social distancing.
This week, join us for a Faculty Meeting on Wednesday, April 15 at 9:00 am. (NOT tax day-YAY!)
Your grade level standing meeting times are also listed below. Please check with your HGL for confirmation and meeting information as these may change based on your own grade level needs.
SPED Teachers-please see emails from Jessica Mattes (April 9) with agenda for Monday’s PLC and the registration information for the HIDOE/HSTA SPED informational session. There is A LOT of material included on the agenda that should be reviewed prior. HIDOE and HSTA are partnering to host a Webex session for administrators and teachers to provide information and updates regarding special education on April 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. HST. Registration is required.(DOE gmail) Registration deadline is April 11 at 5 p.m. HST. If you did not register, we do have staff attending this session prior to our own PLC who can share any updates with us.
Great job last week with our first ever CARES from a distance activities. It was great to see you hanging out, sharing resources to help others engage, using padlet and flipgrid (new experiences for some) and the overall time to show how Ho‘okele CARES about each other and especially our students. Shout out to Marie Smith who shared her use of flipgrid and padlet with her students. AWESOME way to connect and engage with your students through distance learning. We want to hear more about how you and your students are doing adjusting to distance learning so we can do more virtual walkthroughs! Check it all out this week and share! It would also be nice to send out some awesome things on social media-let us know if you have anything (minding confidentiality and permissions) that would be OK to send out about some of the amazing distance learning activities at Ho‘okele.
Please see email from Regina Yamamoto from 4/2/2020 regarding the Ready Classroom Mathematics overview for teachers. This information has been updated on the master calendar.
The Ready Classroom Mathematics virtual overview has been confirmed for the following days and times. The link to the virtual session is listed in the table below (in the email). Please attend the session for your grade band. If you're unable to attend the session on your assigned day, please let us know and we'll check if you can attend the other one.
Please note from Jill’s email (April 11) and from Webex (April 10) that they are adjusting their platforms for added security. Please check those out so you know what to expect!
Liane sent an email out on April 10 with science resource updates, Science Enrichment Resource-check it out!
*If you check the master calendar and see things that need to be updated due to COVID-19 closures, please let us know so we can update the master calendar as well as the parent and student calendar. We want to have the most current information possible, but do not want to assume everything for those time slots is cancelled. For example, if you are considering virtual field trips or activities vs. the scheduled ones, let us know.
We have a very busy week ahead. Let us know how we can help.
