Updates for Week of August 13, 2018
Information for Faculty and Staff
THANK YOU all for helping last week run as smoothly as it did! Having the extra help in the cafeteria, at recess, during drop off and pick up was extremely valuable to our students to help support them in learning new classroom and school routines. We appreciate all of you for your hard work for the benefit of the students! The first days of school are critical and we feel the students are off to a great start!
Keep in mind new students coming in can benefit from a peer buddy to show them the routines they may have missed last week. You will be able to assign Crew Members to handle this task once we complete our Anchored4Life trainings, but for now it will be great practice for your students to see how well they have learned by teaching it to someone new! Watch for more information on Anchored4Life via email.
Kokua Hawaii Foundation offers a variety of grants and programs for schools. The foundation was started by Kim and Jack Johnson to support environmental education in the schools and communities of Hawaii. If you would like more information about AINA in schools (farm to school initiative), Field Trip grants (for outdoor hands-on learning), Mini-Grants (fund projects to advance environmental learning), Plastic Free Hawaii (resources, tools and trainings to go plastic-free) and the 3R’s school recycling program. Contact Mindy for more information or visit the website: www.kokuahawaiifoundation.org. Information is also available on Healthy Snacks and Classroom Celebrations to help meet wellness guidelines and Green Fundraising ideas.
Got school supplies?? We have received a generous donation from the Rotary Club of school supplies and Wal-Mart gift cards to help provide students with necessary items for school. Please let Mindy or Janelle know what you may need for any needy students.
Have a great week and let us know how we can be of assistance! Just a 4 day week and a long weekend! Enjoy!

Information for Students
CONGRATULATIONS to all of you on a successful first week of school! By now you should know your teachers, some new classmates, the routines, rules and expectations for you as a student of Ho’okele! Let’s keep practicing and earn your class gotcha tickets and green and blue cups from the cafeteria!
Our new Anchored4Life Team leaders have been selected: Lily G., Dominic V., Alyssa C., Kainoa B., Anna S. and Monica L. These students will assist in coordinating our transition center programs for new students, outgoing students and students whose parents may be deployed. If you would like to be a Crew Member, let your teacher know. Crew Members assist new students in the classroom by serving as a buddy. Congratulations to our new Team Leaders-training is next week Monday 8/20.
We hope you all continue to have positive experiences this week! It will start to get harder-so be prepared to study hard and focus this week! Take your time on tests so you can show us what you already know! Ask for help when you need it and always try your best!
