Updates for Week of August 27, 2018
Information for Faculty and Staff
Thankfully Lane decided to spare us from any major damages and schools will be open Monday! Admin conducted a complete walkthrough on Sunday and has seen no damage from wind or rain. In fact, everything looked completely dry and in good shape. Please report any new damages you may notice to admin once you all return on Monday. We truly appreciate the efforts made by everyone to safely close the school, get kids home and now return to normalcy this week!
As long as the weather holds, we will attempt outdoor recess starting Monday. Please note this may change if rain or wind picks back up. Remind students that if weather changes while outdoors, whistles will be blown for students to immediately go to line up areas. Yard duty teachers can assist in getting students to a covered waiting area for classroom teachers to arrive.
The resource schedule for this week will be the first rotation (rotation A) that was scheduled for last week. As only Grades 4 and 1 had resource classes, we want all classes to have the opportunity for the introductory lessons that the resource teachers had planned. The grade 1 and 4 classes that had classes last week will have the SAME classes again this week. All grade levels will move to rotation B the following week. PLCs will begin this week, so teachers will NOT be with their classes. Please remind your students to show cooperation and respect to our resource teachers.
Our Gotcha competition for last week will continue this week. Catch ‘um being good!
We will update you on the status of the topics for upcoming faculty meetings. We will also be working hard to complete the DIBELS assessments and any other tasks missed last week. Thanks for your patience!
Our CAS is visiting on Tuesday between 10:45-12:45. You do not need to prepare anything special, just know that visitors may be coming around campus and into your classrooms.

Information for Students
We hope you all were prepared for Hurricane Lane. Although we missed the major storm effects, it is important to know how to prepare and to be ready during Hurricane Season. This was a very close call and a great reminder to us all. Keep your supplies safe for the next storm that comes our way!
Bring in your coins this week for the Coin War! Coins can be deposited into your grade level jars which will be in the cafeteria every morning before school. Earn extra recess and help support the Big Island Volcano Recovery Funding efforts. Keep in mind, much of the Big Island was also impacted by Lane, so your support is needed!
MENU CHANGE: Popcorn chicken will be served on Monday, August 27. Kalua Pork w/cabbage and rice will be served on Tuesday, August 28.
