Updates for Week of January 11, 2016
This week Tuesday, we will have many visitors on our campus. Please use the back parking lots as much as possible to leave room for the Principals and their teams meeting in the cafeteria, as well as for our school food services reviewers.
In preparation for Tuesday’s federal review of our school food services programs, please make sure all students have their IDs for lunch. As always, adults will not be served lunch if they have insufficient funds in their accounts. It will be helpful if you make sure that students arrive to lunch on time and please remind them about appropriate behavior in the cafeteria. We know all staff involved have done a great job in establishing procedures in line with the expectations of school food services.
I would also like to remind teachers of our wellness guidelines and will be sending reminders to parents about school celebrations for birthdays. This information is on our website and in the parent handbook. Any items brought to share should meet the wellness guidelines and should be individually wrapped for easy distribution for students to take home. Any food that needs to be served (cake, catered food, pizza) should be reserved for home celebrations. No food items should be distributed that would interfere with meal times, such as breakfast or lunch, as this could result in a fine for the school. We will encourage parents to consider non food items, such as our birthday books from the library.
Report cards go home THURSDAY! The eSIS window will be open through the 14th in case last minute changes are needed.
I have been working on some ideas for cafeteria behavior and recess games. I will be finalizing some plans and sharing them shortly. While on yard duty, if you encounter students engaged in physical contact, please report that to the student’s teacher. Although the incident may be minor and not require a trip to the health room or office, the homeroom teacher can decide if parents should be notified and if classroom consequences are warranted.
The sub teacher list has been updated. Noelani Bunnell is now available for subbing. She is dually certified as a teacher in gen ed and sped. There are also some names of sub EAs available on the site.
Our copy center and lamination requests will be moved to a central location in the library. We will be training volunteers and Cassie to assist with these tasks. We are also going to keep a log to monitor the volume of the requests.
Please send students who ride the bus immediately after school to the pick up area. The bus drivers have a tight schedule and will not wait longer than 10 minutes past the bell.

Student Announcements (Please read to your students)
Hi Students,
We hope you are happy to be back at school! Thank you for getting right back into your routines!
Please make sure you have your ID at all times for lunch. On Tuesday, we will have some special visitors watching to make sure we are doing a good job in serving your meals to you at breakfast and lunch. We ask that you stay on your best behavior in the cafe and keep noise to a minimum. For breakfast, be sure to say your name nice and loud to the cashier. Thank you in advance for your help!
You will soon be able to earn class points for having a clean table area and good behavior during lunch. Let’s work together to keep our cafeteria a calm and clean environment!
Some of you have played kickball at recess in the hills area. This will be a new activity available when an adult is able to supervise. If no adult is there with the ball, continue to use the hills for running. Remember to freeze and kneel or sit down when the bell rings. When the whistle blows-WALK to your lines.
