Public Schools of Hawaiʻi Foundation Good Idea Grants for School Year 2025-2026

If you are a classroom teacher or a team of teachers employed by the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education (Department) at a school run by the Department, the Public Schools of Hawaiʻi Foundation (PSHF) challenges you to think creatively and boldly to design a project that will excite, engage, and educate your students. To read about or view past Good Idea Grants that have been funded, go to the PSHF website: https://pshf.org/past-projects/.

The Good Idea Grant Program is designed to enhance innovation in the classroom. Mini-grants of up to $3,000 per teacher or team of teachers will be awarded by the start of the next school year (SY). Teachers who will be working with students in a Department public school during the SY 2025-2026 are eligible applicants. Qualified first-time applicants are also given priority consideration.

Detailed instructions, selection criteria, and application forms can be found at the PSHF website at https://pshf.org/good-idea-grants/. To submit an online application, click on the “Apply Now” link to start the process. The deadline to submit a proposal is June 2, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. (HST). All Good Idea Grant applicants and their respective principals will be notified by July 14, 2025, if a Good Idea Grant application has been approved, and checks for approved amounts will be mailed directly to teachers.

It’s all about the WASC Week!

Final: **WASC VC Schedule: Feb 24-27, 2025 (Expanded) (Document with Meeting Participants, Locations and Times)

Monday Reminder: Wear your Ho`okele Staff shirt!

The Purple Star NORBERT Hawaiʻi Award visit was last week Friday!  Our Ho'okele students sparkled during the Purple Star Tour and Presentation! They impressed the visiting committee with their knowledge about our school and programs. While we await the official results, feedback was incredibly positive, especially about our students and support for military families.

Due to the increased amount of injuries from being on the spinners on A Bug’s World, both will be off limits till further notice. A training video will be shared prior to it reopening. Mahalo for your understanding!

Noreen Nakaoka’s professor from UH shared that there is a program that provides professional development/teacher training on family engagement. Here is the link to the website. She also mentioned that schools are eligible for a $3000 stipend. Her name is Roxanne Bristol.  Contact Roxanne or Noreen for more information if interested.

Thank you to Laura Brown for all of your work preparing, coordinating, and patiently finalizing every last detail for our WASC visit.  Your efforts to bring together our team are truly appreciated.  All of our faculty and staff shine throughout this process and we owe a lot of that confidence in the results to the on-stage and off-stage work of Mrs. Brown.  Thank you, Laura!

Thank you to Ms Kat, Mr. Cam, Ms. Emma and our Anchored 4 Life students (Isaac, Amelia, Olivia, Ariana, Gino, Kaniala) for their help with our tour and presentation for our Purple Star Visitation last week!  It was a big undertaking right before WASC, but we appreciate the effort by all!

Congratulations🎉 Fourth Grade for being one of the first grade levels to complete your SecondStep Unit 2! They earned a Starbucks run from the counselors for a great Friday pick-me-up!!

Thank you to Sheldon Mow for connecting us with Battery Bill for the e-waste collection and fundraiser!  It was a great turnout and we hope to have raised a significant amount of money for the school!!

Do YOU have an APPRECIATION, APOLOGY, AHA or Additional stuff that you would like shared in this blog?  Please contact VP Melinda Pamatigan should you wish to contribute, clarify or correct any information that is shared.  Posts are done on Sunday mornings, so let me know of information you would like to include by Saturday evening.  Corrections will be made to a posted blog as soon as I receive your notification.  THANK YOU!
