February 1, 2024, marks the beginning of the 48th annual Black History Month. The theme for 2024 is “African Americans and the Arts,” and it explores the impact Black Americans have had on visual arts, music, cultural movements, and more. African American artists, encompassing poets, writers, visual artists, and dancers, have consistently played pivotal roles as catalysts for change through their artistic pursuits.
Schools are encouraged to celebrate the history and heritage of African Americans by observing Black History Month. To assist with this, curricular resources on Black History topics are attached. These resources support the Hawaii Core Standards in Social Studies and the C3 Framework.
Council for Exceptional Children Convention and Expo: March 13-16, 2024 in San Antonio, TX
Each year at the CEC Convention & Expo, thousands of special education professionals from around the world come together to learn, share, grow, and connect. With hundreds of sessions on just about every topic in the field, the CEC Convention & Expo is THE professional development event for special educators to find research, tips, and strategies you can actually apply to supporting students with disabilities and/or gifts and talents.
If interested in attending this Convention and Expo, please share how it is relevant to your current job, relevant to your career goals, and how it will positively impact your overall effectiveness as a teacher. Please share your rationale with me by Tuesday, January 17 at 4:00pm. Priority will be given to current SPED teachers and current general education inclusion teachers who intend to continue as an inclusion teacher in SY 2024 - 2025. If additional spaces are available, the priority will go to general education teachers who intend to be inclusion teachers in SY 2024 - 2025.
