Updates for Week of January 30, 2023

Please note Wednesday’s Faculty meeting is an extended day for grade levels to meet.  The Instructional Strategies training has been canceled.  Please let us know where you will meet and share your grade level agendas/minutes with administration.

WOW Wednesday #1 from Principal Toy (1/25/2023) Aloha everyone, To hopefully share some inspiration from what's happening in classrooms and also schoolwide updates, I'm going to attempt to send Wow Wednesday emails weekly...we're halfway through this week!  Inspiration: I was able to drop by Ms. Hansen's 1st grade class when students were working on a dragon drawing for Chinese New Year. When I complimented students on their work and told them I was not very good at drawing, one girl said, "No, that's not true!"  Another boy said, "Ms. Toy, you just need to try again and practice." What stories do we tell about ourselves that are untrue, especially if we try again and practice? Updates:  Action Plans Due Today: A reminder for your Home Group time that Action Plans for SY23-24 are due today! I will be walking around to check in with you during meetings...here's Bryan's agenda from when he reviewed this on January 4. New Quarter 3 CARES Assembly Date: We have shifted the CARES assembly this quarter to Thursday, March 9 (it was previously March 8) to accommodate some grade level activities. The assembly times will remain the same with an 8:15 AM start for Grades K-2 and a 9:15 AM start for Grades 3-5. Field Trip Reminders: We are so excited to see a number of our grade levels taking field trips more freely than has been possible for years now! That being said, a reminder to please be sure to follow the checklist and let the cafeteria know if your grade/class will be off campus during lunch. Thank you in advance as this helps our cafeteria team to plan accordingly for food preparations. W-2 Forms: The electronic copy of the employee Wage and Tax Statement (Form W-2) for calendar year 2022 is now available on the Hawaii Information Portal (HIP). You can access their Form W-2 by logging in to HIP from a Hawaii State Department of Education networked computer and clicking on the View W-2/W-2c Forms tile. If interested, students are invited to enter their drawings by March 7th.  The prompt for this year is... I am grateful for...  The winning Doodle will be displayed on the Google homepage for 24 hours along with opportunities to win a scholarship. Social Emotional Learning Aloha Teachers! We have 17(teaching) weeks left of school left this year!!!  If you are following the suggested implementation schedule you should also be on Lesson 19!  Grades 1-5 only have 22 lessons in the curriculum.  The last lesson (22) will be a review and a time to give your summative assessments.  Please plan on giving the summative assessments to all of your students. SEL (Social Emotional Learning) This week we will begin teaching our Second STEP lessons.   Please access the resources at the Second STEP website. Hi Everyone,  Thank you for a smooth week of SBA Interim testing!  ELA Make-Ups will be held on Monday, January 30th from 8:15 AM. IN-CLASS MAKE-UPS: If you still have a handful of students needing to complete the ELA CAT or PT, please have them finish on Monday morning and place your DO NOT DISTURB signs on the door. If you need tech assistance, email Jill for support. Please note that Katie and I will be off-campus at an SBA training, so will be unable to physically assist.  Regina will swing by the hubs from time to time if you need immediate assistance. We will also have access to our computers, so feel free to email if you have any questions. MAKE-UP SESSION in D207: If there are only 1-2 students from your class needing to finish, feel free to sign them up for make-ups HERE. Space is limited due to other events happening around campus.  For those who are listed on the sign-up sheet, please have your students bring their iPad, keyboard, earphones, log-in card, pencil, and scratch paper PRIOR to 8:15 AM Ashley Contreras and Joanne Barilla will be helping to administer make-ups in D207. Thank you both!!! ALL FINISHED? If your entire class is finished and you will NOT be testing on Monday, you may continue your regularly scheduled instruction. Please be mindful of those still testing and keep the hallways free of distractions. RECESS Since most students will be completing their assessments on Monday, outdoor recess has been scheduled.
