Updates for Week of March 30, 2020
Dear Faculty and Staff,
We sincerely hope you are all staying healthy and keeping yourselves active and safe. This is a new experience for everyone and we understand the various emotions that come into play on a daily basis. We are here to listen and help in whatever ways we can as we all learn new ways of doing everything! As you continue to settle into our new virtual way of life, stay connected! At this time, school facilities remain closed through April 30.
**Teachers, please see IMPORTANT email from Laureen dated March 29, 2020 with details on due date for entering report cards and electronic distribution on 4/8 and 4/9.
We will be discussing information that has been sent out regarding report cards and chromebook roll out plans for distance learning. Teachers, please see Jill’s email from March 27 and March 29 regarding the chromebook roll out plan.
Thank you for submitting your grade level plans for distance learning. As a reminder, the expectation is to provide enrichment activities and not new learning. Our students are very fortunate to have amazing teachers looking out for them even from afar!
Schoolwide Distance Learning Folder is available in the shared drive.
Shared Drive >> Certificated Staff >> Curriculum >> Distance Learning
On Friday, our VPs and Cafe Manager Dean assisted the High School in giving out 350 breakfasts and 700 lunches to the Kapolei community families. It was nice to see many Ho‘okele kids and the positive response from the community to access the free food service. We will continue to support these efforts and pass along the positive vibes of our grateful families.
Suggestion from Natalie H: Having trouble getting parents to answer calls from unknown numbers? Try sending an email letting them know what time you may be calling. Jill also sent out a mass email alerting parents about the possibility of receiving unknown caller calls as we all are working remotely.
Our counselors have reached out with their virtual office times and have had some great responses from the students. Thank you counselors for being there for these kids during this time!
Updating Addresses for Salaried Employees:
For the March 20th payroll and for future paychecks during the school closures (up until April 30th), Payroll is mailing paychecks that were normally delivered to schools using the employee's addresses in eHR (many checks were returned undeliverable). To expedite salaried employee's address changes, employee may submit a change of address form (DOE OHR 300-006) or email our office directly at:
cert.trans@k12.hu.is (for Certificated Salaried Employees) OR
class.trans@k12.hi.us (Classified Salaried Employees)
Please provide the following information in the employee's email:
Name:
Emp ID:
School/Office:
Position:
New Address:
*Note: Since paychecks are being mailed, we must confirm that the employee is requesting an updated address, please use work email.
Teachers: If you do not have a Webex account, please create an account. All special ed meetings should be used with Webex and DOE recommends this platform due to the Data Service Agreements with the company. Google Meets may also be used for our staff and internal meetings.
We will be doing our best to update the blog to support all new information coming via email due to all of the changes and updates provided at all levels almost daily. Your email will be the most current information if there are any discrepancies. Please email Melinda_Pamatigan@hookele.k12.hi.us should you see information that is incorrect or needs updating. And as always, reach out to us at anytime for clarification. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Beginning the week of April 6, we are looking to provide some other opportunities for us all to Connect, Engage, Inspire, Serve and Succeed. Watch for more details on ways to keep in virtual touch with our Ho‘okele family once everyone settles in a bit more!
We want to learn from you! Have you had some success with your distance learning activities? Found ways to connect that you’d like to share? How have you successfully motivated kids for on-line learning? Have an uplifting and inspiring story to share? Submit HERE!
