Updates for Week of March 23, 2020

Image result for adjusting to change

Aloha Ho‘okele Ohana,

Understandably there is a lot of confusion and uncertainty during this time.  We are all adjusting to the new norms of our current world.
To help us navigate, we welcome back Leslie to our support team and school!  Her cross training at Ilima is postponed as she and Tia are immediately returning to their assigned schools.  We thank Tia for all of her support during the busy week prior to Spring Break.

Thank you for your patience.  Please keep checking your emails for updates and keep in touch as to what supports you need.  Other than the access on Monday and Tuesday for teachers (see email), the campus is closed completely.  Stay safe and healthy.

Expect changes due to Mayor's Press Conference held at 3/22/2020 at 3:00 pm.

Email to teachers from Laureen at 5:25 pm
Hi All,
CAS just got clarification and we will be allowing access only on Monday.
So far we heard back from almost all of you and people are coming in on Monday.
Again, please be safe, get what you need and although difficult, please avoid face to face communication with your colleagues tomorrow.

Much appreciation,

laureen

Email to teachers from Laureen at 3:59 pm 3/22/2020

Hi All,

Some of you may have just watched Mayor Caldwell's message on tv saying as of March 23, 4:30 pm, there is a stay at home, work at home order for non-essential activities/business. I have asked CAS if this means we have to cancel access to pick up things from the classrooms on Tuesday.  He has not heard from HIDOE yet. VPs are reaching out to you via your HGL to see if anyone planned to come on Tuesday because they could not come on Monday but wanted to pick up things.  We can work together to see what can be done.  I will update all of you via email if there will be no access on Tuesday.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding as things change by the day or even hour.

Much appreciation!

laureen

Teachers, check email from Jill for instructions on Goggle Meetings from March 21, 2020

Updated Emails from Laureen to Teachers March 21, 2020

11:06 pm
Hi All,

Please know first and foremost the health and safety of you and your family is what is important.

Thank you for your patience as Admin sifted through and made sense of all that was shared with principals on Friday and later with Support Team tonight.  I know many of you have a lot of questions and uncertainty about how the next couple of weeks will look like.  We will go more into detail when we have our virtual faculty meeting on Tuesday.

For now, some of you may be wondering what should you pick up when you have access to your classroom.  Again, we ask that you only enter your classroom and pick-up what you need and leave. Below is the updated staggered schedule.  Please let Admin know if you will not be able to pick up what you need because you are still within the 14 day window of returning from abroad or the mainland.

Monday, 3/23

  • 8:00 am  - PreK, K & 3
  • 9:00 am - Med Frag, Grades 2 & 4
  • 10:00 am - FSC, Grades 1 &  5

Tuesday, 3/23

8:00 am - 11:00 am

Items to take home with you:
1. Laptop and charger
2. iPad and charger
3. Items needed for Distance Learning Planning and for normal instruction upon students returning on April 7.
Other possible items:
4. Student work/assessment needed to work on report card grades

* Please note, no new learning/teaching is expected. Our goal is to try and ensure our students do not regress during this time. With that being said, what is provided to students will be work of concepts already taught or enrichment activities.
Week of 3/23 - Planning for Distance Learning to begin on 3/30
Week of 3/30 - Implementation of Distance Learning and instructional planning for students return on 4/7 as well as planning for social distancing.

Thank you,
laureen

Email from Laureen to teachers on March 21, 2020

Hi Everyone,

Hope you are all healthy and doing well.
Teachers you will have access to your classrooms to pick-up anything you may need during the next few weeks.  To limit social interaction, we are staggering the times you can go into your classroom.  We also ask that you only enter your classroom and pick-up what you need and leave. Due to limited access and safety concerns, please try to find other arrangements for your children if you are coming on campus.

A custodian will open the parking gates at 7:50 am and close it at 11:15 am on both days.

Access to Classrooms:
Monday, March 23
8:00 am  - Kinder & Grade 3
9:00 am - Grades 2 & 4
10:00 am - Grades 1 &  5

Tuesday, March 24

8:00 - 11:00 am (If unable to come in on Monday)

I will be sending out another email on Sunday morning regarding next weekʻs schedule.

Thank you,
laureen

Other information as of March 21, 2020

Casual Hire Employees: Your return date would be when students return. At this time that date is set for April 7. This applies to PPTs, adult supervisors, room cleaners. PTTs would also return when students return, however the resource calendar will likely be modified and we will keep you posted on that.

Educational Assistants: You will be working remotely from 3/23/2020. You will be working under the supervision of admin and/or your supervising teacher. We do not have additional details on what that work will look like for you at this time. Please continue to check emails for updates.

There will be NO Special Education meetings held during the week of 3/23-3/27. (IEPs, 504, assessments, SFTs...) Care coordinators or meeting organizers will need to contact teams to cancel and then reschedule those on a virtual platform for a later date. From 3/30/2020, meetings should be held virtually when possible to meet timelines. More details will be sent to SPED teachers separately as I am sure there are a lot of questions.

School Closure Questions. Running document for your questions.
Please note changes happen often.
