Rubbish Reminders
Our awesome custodians just want to remind teachers...
1) Please break down boxes you are disposing before leaving them by your trash can
2) If you have lunch bunch, please bag up food waste with trash bags (you can request some if you're out!) and throw the bag in a big grey wheeled bin outside. There is one under every stairwell.
Mahalo!
If you have any parents or students concerned about coronavirus, you can refer to the DOH guidelines and information on the subject. We do not have additional guidelines from DOE at this time.
Continue to emphasize the basics regarding flu/cold prevention:
-Proper hand washing
-If child may be sick or is not feeling well, schedule an appointment with their PCP/stay home from school
-If child feels ill during school hours, to see health room. Follow SHA Manual Guidelines as appropriate (ex. If child has fever)
A bit of Inspiration from Tiari Silva: So after church service on Sunday I opened my email to find a special request. I was inspired through this week's message at church to share this particular experience with all of you. This year I've been blessed with a student who challenges my every sense of patience and teaching ability. This past week I scheduled a parent conference with this child's mom, who was concerned about his academic progress in ELA after 2nd quarter report cards went home. With great support Elizabeth and Regina sat in to share how together as a team we would provide more support for her child. As we sat in our meeting, we were able to witness the chaos of this mother's life in front of us. All three children had touched and opened every center in my room and spilled it across the floor. The youngest child didn't like the candy in his mouth and ran toward Regina to spit it out. Regina reluctantly stuck out her hand to let him spit it out and instead picked the slobbery candy out of his mouth! When we could get mom's attention I was able share funny ways I was able to get her child to do his work. For 2 days during our math block this student was able to bring his workbook and a pencil and land on my desk belly first. After many reminders to focus on his work, testing every patient nerve in my body, he farts! Being so smelly and no other child next to us, I called him out on it! He pointed across the room and blamed a student far away. I told him, "No, that was you and I'm going to die. Who's going to teach the class now, I'm going to die from your stinky farts!" Through all his giggling I was able to point to problems and have him complete portions of his work, while giving him directions with a pinched nose and talking in a nasally voice. Reflecting on this particular day of the week, our message at church was, "There are lives God assigns to you!" When I heard this message, I completely bypassed my family, co-workers, and close friends and immediately my heart fell on this student. How I secretly wished he wouldn't show up daily to make my days run smoother, but not even the germs will come near, but greets me every morning with the hardest high-five of them all. I know he comes to school daily for a reason and he's been assigned to me. In hope that this message may inspire you as it did me, have a great week! HE has assigned each one to YOU!
