Updates for the Week of January 26, 2026

Please welcome our new counseling intern, Amber Flanigan.  She will be working with Elizabeth Okamoto. Grade 4 NAEP Testing . Please see below for details. When: January 29, 2026 Location: Library  Time: 7:00 AM (Set-Up); 8:30 AM (Session #1); 11:30 AM (Session #2) Materials Needed: Student ID, Book to Read, Water Bottles Logistics : See Informational Slides There will be NO changes to resources and Grade 4 students who will not be taking the SBA Interim on this day. (Select grade 4 students are tested; around 60 students total in 2 separate sessions) The teachers and I will be helping to gather students prior to their session, and they will be escorted to and from the library with all of their materials. Students who are scheduled to be in Session #2 will eat lunch at 10:50 AM, before heading up to the library. Updates for the Week of January 19, 2026

When Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. visited Hawaii in February 1964, he spoke to over 10,000 people at the University of Hawaii’s Andrews Outdoor Theatre.  During his visit, he famously praised Hawaii as a model for the rest of the world. He said: "We look to you for inspiration... as you provide a noble example of how people of different races and backgrounds can live together in harmony." According to Gemini, I also learned how MLK day in Hawai‘i is considered a day “on” and not a day “off” as many use it as a day of service for ‘āina-based learning, such as beach clean-ups and other community projects. What a great inspiration for the week and even some connections to the upcoming broadcast about sharing a sense of Hawai‘i, the Aloha Spirit and Mālama.   We hope you have a nice 3 day weekend, however you spend your day “on” or “off” and look forward to what your students have learned or will learn about the inspirational leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.   It’s t...
