Updates for Week of 10/12/2015
Hi Everyone,
Welcome back! We hope you had an enjoyable break!
Our field area will not be ready for use as anticipated upon our return. We are now being told it will likely be ready in early November. This means recess areas will continue as is for now, and our fire drill area will not be modified until we have the field area to use. Thank you for your patience and understanding. While on yard duty, please assist younger students with bathroom doors as needed and double check before leaving the field area that students are accounted for. We will be checking on the doors as some maybe having difficulty with the locks. Also, please see message below to students regarding changes to the hill area-tag and chase games will no longer be permitted.
Did you know… our campus is using non-potable water from a variety of sources, including recycled water, rainwater and reclaimed water. While non-potable water may not possess an unpleasant smell or taste, if consumed, it carries the risk of illness as it is not fully treated. People can get sick from drinking non-potable water either as a result of its chemical contaminants or from bacterial and parasitic microorganisms. Please review with your students the importance of not drinking water from our non-potable water distribution which is marked by purple sprinklers.
Please remember that if you set off an alarm for any of the buildings, you need to contact APN and give them your security word. If they are not contacted, they contact admin and/or Mike to determine if police will need to be dispatched, which is difficult for us to ascertain if we do not know why the alarm is going off or who may be on campus. We are looking at the use of a google log to help us identify who is on campus after hours in hopes this will cut down on any unnecessary calls to us or HPD as we do get charged for false alarms to the police. Your help is appreciated.
We welcome Noelle Garcia as our new 5th grade teacher! She will be working with Kaulu with her class. Due to this change, we are losing her as an awesome art PTT for resource days. I have begun the search for a new person. Our Hawaiian Studies PTT for upper grades is awaiting verification which should happen sometime this week. Although we did announce that we would have PLCs this week, we are asking if you could please follow your students to resource classes instead. This will give lower grades the opportunity to see their students in their resource classes and help us in upper grades with the PTT shortage. Grades 4-6 students will only have PE this week at their scheduled times. If we are able to offer Hawaiian Studies or an alternative for art I will let you know, however, please have something planned for those blocks in case no alternative is available. I apologize for the last minute changes and for any confusion it will cause. I have sent an email with more details.
Please welcome Elizabeth Texeira-our new EA for Special Education. Ellie will be working with Natalie Hepting in Preschool.
On 10/2, an email was sent out with fire safety reminders. Please review and make necessary adjustments for your office or classrooms.
Have a fantastic week! Thanks for all you do-this will be a fast quarter!!

Welcome back students! We hope you had fun with your families over the break and are excited to hear about your adventures!
Please do not drink any water from the purple sprinklers. This is our non potable water, which means it is untreated rainwater and recycled water that we use to water our plants. It is not safe for drinking!
SAFETY FIRST: Our larger field area will not be ready until November. We will continue having recess in the areas as we did for quarter 1. We will be making one major change however, in that you will NOT be permitted to play chase or tag in the grassy hill area (No sharks and minnows). You may run in this area and we will suggest games such as red light/green light in which all students are running in the same direction across the field. This will help us cut down on accidents and injuries during recess time in this area from students pushing or tagging roughly and others getting hurt. Once our larger area is open, we will offer more running games and sports zones.
On Thursday we will practice our earthquake drill. Be ready for the Great Shakeout!
Have a great week!
Mrs. Dunn and Mrs. Pamatigan
