Updates for the Week of March 9, 2026

Mahalo for a Successful Spring Craft Fair!

We are thrilled to share that our Spring Craft Fair was a resounding success. This event wouldn't have been possible without the hard work of the PTA, our dedicated volunteers, and the wonderful vendors and shoppers who filled our campus with energy on Saturday.

A special shout-out to our talented staff members who showcased their impressive creative skills! Between the unique handmade finds and the diverse food offerings—ranging from artisan sweets to savory snacks—there was truly something for everyone. We appreciate the steady turnout and the positive spirit shared by our families and friends.

Thank you for your support!

Playground Clarification from VP Umeno:

After the two serious injuries that occurred this week, there was a real urgency to make changes based on what happened and the reasons why. I want to specifically apologize for any confusion regarding Crocs; since they were unfortunately involved in both of those serious injuries this week.

Here is what is in our parent handbook regarding playground rules: After reflecting on the feedback that was shared, I want to clarify our expectations by aligning them with our Parent Handbook. Per Rule #7 (Shoes), we are requiring closed-toe shoes for playground safety. To ensure we are all on the same page, please see the specific examples below:

Approved: Sneakers

Approved: Crocs with back strap on

Not Permitted: Slippers

Not Permitted: Closed-toe shoes with heels (for safety reasons, these pose a significant trip and ankle-injury hazard)

Our priority is to ensure the students can play safely while staying consistent with our handbook. Thank you for your patience and for your dedication to our students' safety during a difficult week.

Our Kindergarten and Grade 2 Students participated in the Hawai’i Keiki Dental Programs on Friday!  They were able to screen 35 second graders, 24 needed sealants, 68 teeth were sealed, and 1 had urgent needs. They were also able to screen 91 kindergarteners, no urgent, 19 not urgent, and 72 had no issues.  Thank you to Hawai‘i Keiki and Hawai’i Dental Service for bringing the Dental Sealant Team and the Kindergarten Oral Assessment Program to Ho‘okele Elementary!

Thank you to PTA for providing support, and to Ms. Emma for sharing your space!  Thanks also to Ms. Sherri for helping to organize this event and to the Grade K and 2 teachers for your flexibility. As always, appreciation to our custodians for helping arrange the rooms as needed.

Student Showcase (Teachers) Thank you for everything you did to get the student work ready for Student Showcase!  Can’t wait to see this fabulous event!

We will be keeping an eye on the weather in the event our outdoor lunch plans need to be adjusted.  We are nothing if not flexible, so we will keep you posted on what changes will be made to accommodate the event and lunchtime seating.
