Updates for Week of August 8, 2022
Aloha!
Week one is DONE! We appreciate all of the time and effort spent teaching and preparing your students and their families of what to expect. It was a smooth opening thanks to all involved!
Classroom supplies are available in the front office. In addition to the school supplies we purchased for classroom use, there have been several community partners who have donated supplies for our students. If you are in need of anything now or throughout the school year please contact Pam in the front office.
The following inventory is available:
3 Hole punch, backpacks, binders, book covers, calculators, clipboards, clips, compasses, crayons, disinfecting wipes, dividers, erasers, file folders, glue, index cards, markers, notebooks, oil pastels, paint, paper, pencils, pencil boxes, pencil sharpeners, pens, post-its, protractors, recorders, rulers, scissors, sheet protectors, staplers, staples, tape, whiteout and more!
Hep B vaccinations: The Department offers the Hep B vaccination series at no cost to all Department employees who have been identified as having Category I/II job exposure risks (refer to Section III, pages 7-9 of the Plan).
A survey was emailed to employees who may fall into the category I/II job exposure risks. If you did not receive that email and feel you may have significant exposure risk to bloodborne pathogens, please contact VP Pamatigan for a survey to be completed by August 10, 2022. * Please note that if an employee has received the Hep B vaccination within the last thirty (30) years they do not need to be placed on the list.
Be sure to check your emails and calendars for new or updated information. Important emails to note: Regina Yamamoto 8/4/22 (iReady diagnostics), Michael Bio 8/6/22 (alarms) and Melinda Pamatigan 8/7/22 (Front exit gate modifications). Don’t forget that your OSYP documents are due via online link AND you need to upload or send electronic (or paper) copies of the FERPA and confidentiality certificates to VP Pamatigan. The due date is 8/19/22.

Aloha and Welcome to Ho‘okele School Year 2022-2023!
On behalf of Principal Rankie, VP Umeno and myself (VP Pamatigan), we are so happy that you are back in school! Our theme this year is UNITE, EXCITE, GROW and we are very pleased with the way things are flowing so smoothly for the opening of SY 2022-2023!
We hope everyone had a wonderful summer and enjoyed your first 3 days of school. By now you should have received information from your teacher with everything you need to know about what is new and what has changed for this school year. We are looking forward to seeing you all and meeting new faces to our Ho‘okele family. We hope you have enjoyed getting to know your new teachers and classmates-we are ready for an AMAZING school year! Be sure to welcome new friends and help them learn everything they need to know about Ho‘okele.
Don’t forget to return your forms to your teachers and have your parents sign and update their information. If you have questions-be sure to check out our school website at https://hookele.hidoe.us/ for more information and reach out to your teachers.
With our kindergarten students joining for their first full days starting Monday, be mindful that there will be more traffic and students at drop off and pick up. Make sure you know where you will be meeting your siblings and/or parents-you’ve done a great job with this so far. If you’d like your parents to park in the morning or get out of the car, they can park in our grass lot behind D building. If you are getting in and out of the car at curbside, remember to be careful and help keep our traffic moving by getting in and out as quickly and safely as you can.
For students who walk, ride bike/scooter or meet your parents at the front gate by the administration building, we will be assigning exit gates starting on Monday for after school. Please be mindful of this when you leave the school and look for the signs to show you which gate to use in the front. Older students, be cautious and careful of our younger students and allow them to get to their areas safely before you.
You have done a fantastic job of learning the back to school routines and we are pleased by how well you are following our tribes agreements in and outside of your classroom. There were mostly ALL teal cups in the cafeteria and very few red cups had to be used to remind you of appropriate cafeteria behavior. Thank you for respecting our recess equipment and returning it to the carts after use. If you take good care of it, we will be able to use it all year-we want you to enjoy a variety of fun activities with friends from your whole grade level.
We are all here to help support you in having your best year in school yet! There is a lot of learning and a lot of fun coming your way for School Year 2022-2023! We are excited by what we have seen so far and look forward to the days and weeks ahead.
Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week!!
