From Katie: As the year comes to a close, we are sure you have lots of great evidence of AVID strategies that you used over the course of this school year! We are collecting AVID samples in the same way as last year, by having each grade level submit 1-2 slides of photo evidence of how you are using AVID strategies in the classroom. Grade levels will need to submit evidence for each area of focus that was discussed earlier this school year. You will have some time during your Grade Level meeting on May 11 to complete your slides, but you are welcome to get a head start on your slides, or start thinking about what evidence you would like to contribute. Slides will need to be completed by Wednesday, May 18. AVID Evidence Collection Writing Strategies (Complete 1-2 slides) Organizational Strategies (Complete 1-2 slides) Marking the Text Strategies(Complete 1-2 slides) You can refer to Hookele AVID K-5 WICOR alignment to recall examples that your grade level had identified earlier this school year during our AVID PD training. Here is an example of AVID evidence from last school year for reference: Marking the Text Strategies SY 20-21 We look forward to seeing all of the wonderful ways you have used AVID strategies this school year!

Updates for Students
Aloha Students!
It’s MAY! We are into the last month of the school year and it is going to be busy and exciting!
Teacher Appreciation Week: This week we celebrate your TEACHERS who work so hard to provide you with quality and fun learning experiences. Take a moment to say THANK YOU to your teachers for everything that they do for you. We consider ourselves lucky to have so many wonderful educators at our school, inspiring such wonderful students!
Over the next couple of weeks, you will be having iReady diagnostic (Grades K-2) and SBA testing (Grades 3-5). There are many rules for test security that your teachers will be going over with you, if they have not done so already. It is very important that you honor all of the rules in order to get the best test results for yourselves and for our school. Be sure to eat a healthy breakfast and get a good night’s sleep. Come to school on time and ready to do your absolute best. We believe in you!
CONGRATULATIONS to our JPOs for their first ever on-campus competition day last week! We’d also like to congratulate our 5th grade math team members who competed this past Saturday. Our Ho‘owaiwai students were also recognized for their video PSAs at the ‘Olelo Youth Xchange. Awesome Job to all of the students involved-it’s great to see the renewed involvement in all of these activities!
We want this last month of school to be full of positivity. You have done a great job so far this school year in following our rules and expectations. We know you have the grit and determination to succeed for the remaining few weeks of this school year! Be amazing!
Happy May and Have a Great Day!
P.S. Check out the Grade 3 Door Decorations to inspire you for testing! Good Luck!
