Updates for Week of February 7, 2022
Faculty and Staff Updates
Aloha!
This week we celebrate our AMAZING counselors, Mrs. Okamoto and Mrs. Yamamoto. Thank you for everything that you do for the students, staff, families and our school community. WE APPRECIATE YOU!
COVID-19 Health and Safety Guidance for School Year 2021-22
Your students MAY bring Valentine’s cards to share with non-food items only (see student message below). This is to minimize students removing masks to eat treats (without social distancing) and also to honor our wellness/food allergy policies.
We will have staff COVID testing on Monday at the same time if you will be on campus.
Please see the note to students below about appropriate recess play. We are noticing more student injuries due to physical contact at recess time. From observations and speaking with students, there are a lot of chase/tag games and students are not keeping safe social distance during these activities. We will need to reinforce this for health and safety reasons. Thank you for speaking with your class about this.
Enjoy your week!

Updates for Students
Aloha Students!
We hope you are enjoying your weekend-Remember NO SCHOOL on Monday 2/7 for Teachers’ Institute Day. We will see you on Tuesday!
This week is Counselors’ Appreciation week. Please let Mrs. Okamoto and Mrs. Yamamoto know how much you appreciate everything they do for you! We are very lucky to have these 2 AMAZING counselors at our school!
For our students in grades 3-5 who just wrapped up the SBA Interim testing, we are looking forward to reviewing those results and using that information to continue adjusting our teaching to help you with your learning. For the most part, we were pleased with your dedication and focus on the test, however, we did have some concerns with the amount of students who may not have understood the importance of the testing environment. As a reminder…
-Desks must be cleared of all items.
-Bathroom Usage should be kept to a minimum (go before and after testing)
-No Food/Drinks are permitted in your testing area
-Backpacks, Cell Phone, and Smart Watches must not be accessed during testing
-Know what work you are allowed to do when finished. You may read a book or draw only. You may not use your ipad or do any other classwork.
Be a smart test taker and you will get great results.
Some of our 4th graders will be taking the NAEP assessment on Tuesday. This is the National Assessment of Educational Progress and is an important assessment to measure what you and students across the country are learning. Do your best and good luck!
With Valentine’s Day approaching, some of you may want to give Valentines to your friends. Because of our COVID, wellness guidelines and food allergy policies, we are not allowing any food items (candy, cupcakes, treats) to be distributed, but you may give cards or small non-food items (stickers, erasers, pencils) to your friends. You can always share a kind gesture and kind words to help others feel special and let them know you appreciate them!
Fifth grade will be selling carnation grams for Valentine's day to raise funds for their end of the year celebration. Grams will be delivered to students on Monday, 2/14/22. Each gram costs $2.00. We will be selling grams before and after school this week.
Lastly, we want to remind students about appropriate games and play at recess. We are noticing many more chase and tag games that are leading to students becoming injured through physical contact and/or trips and falls. It is important to find safe activities that allow social distancing and we ask that you help each other find ways to enjoy recess together safely. Got some great ideas to share? Let your teachers know and help spread the word to your classmates!
We are about half way through the 3rd quarter and hope you are successfully navigating your learning. Let us know what help you need. Be Responsible, Be Respectful and Be Safe!
Have a great week!
