Updates for Week of January 11, 2021

We would like to officially welcome our new staff for the cafeteria and custodial crew.  Welcome our new cafeteria manager, Star Jumawan.  We also have a new cafeteria helper, Yvette Hamalian. Leoni Devera will be joining the custodial staff starting Monday.  Welcome to Ho‘okele!

This is an important week as we review all relevant data for decisions to be made regarding our learning model moving forward.  We have been watching the numbers carefully and speaking to our neighboring schools in the community.  Whatever is decided will require a lot of planning and coordination to make any transitions and changes successful and smooth.  We thank you in advance for your patience and professionalism as we work everything out!

Stay healthy and safe.  It is important to follow all recommended guidance to minimize the spread of COVID.  We appreciate all of your communication on these matters and your dedication to helping us get through the challenges we are all facing.  We have an amazing faculty and staff and we are grateful for all of you.  As per the HIDOE Huddle from last week, the department is planning for the administration of the vaccine for 44,000 employees and is currently working to identify the priority populations.  We will keep you posted as we hear any new updates or information regarding the vaccine.

Have a great week!  Stay amazing!

Welcome back to school!  We hope your first week back went smoothly.  It’s always great to reconnect with our friends after a vacation.

Friends are like toothpaste. They always come through in a tight squeeze.

Do you have a friend who always comes through for you when you feel sad or when times are tough?  It’s always a good time to show appreciation towards these friends.  Send them a short note to say hello or thank you for being a friend!

You may notice some new faces in your class and we wanted to remind you all to help welcome any new students we have at our school, even if it’s in your virtual classroom.  Our Anchored 4 Life program is a way to help students get to know Ho‘okele.  We will be looking for some students who may be interested in being team leaders for this program, so if you have a desire to help new students and will be in 4th or 5th grade next year, look for more information coming soon!

SUPER READERS!  Congratulations to our top 3 #808Reads classroom winners:  Ms. Yee, Ms. Carlos and Ms. Takeguchi!!  AND we had 34 students who logged over 900 reading minutes!!  Thanks to Ms. Bagoyo for coordinating this library reading challenge!

We're looking for student candid photos to be considered for use in our yearbook. Please see the emailed flyer for more information.  Please email images to hes_sc@hookele.k12.hi.us by February 18, 2021.

Calendar Reminders:  This coming week is a full 5 day week!  Report cards will be emailed to your parents on Wednesday.  The following week, we have NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 18, 2021 a holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
