Updates for Week of December 10, 2018

Information for Faculty and Staff
IMPORTANT:  ALL Employees need to follow instructions provided to you on auto-pay NO LATER THAN Dec. 14.  If you did not get the instructions, please see Dollinda ASAP. There are computers in the library that can be used-as a reminder you must be on our DOE faculty server.  Thank you to Daryl and Jill who have been sending email updates and reminders to help ease you through this process!

The first grade classes have been participating in a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) module which integrates the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematics by using scientific inquiry and engineering design as unifying processes. PLTW emphasizes innovation and the development of problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration skills.

During the second quarter, our focus is on the Sun, Moon, and Stars.  For our culminating project, the students will be designing a structure to protect their student-made sculpture from the harmful UV rays.  In order for students to build their structure, we need your help in providing the following recyclable materials:

Plastic water bottles, Newspaper, styrofoam packing peanuts, styrofoam cups/trays, cardboard boxes (no bigger than a shoebox), bubble wrap, half-gallon milk cartons (PLEASE RINSE), old yarn or string, aluminum foil, plastic Saran wrap, Disposable chopsticks, Empty toilet paper/paper towel roll, Cereal boxes.

We would also appreciate the following items: Masking tape, Painter’s tape, Scotch tape.

We ask that you thoroughly wash and dry containers as we will be storing them in our classrooms. We will be collecting these materials from Tuesday, 11/27 to Friday, 12/14.  Thank you very much!

Thank you to Liane and all of you who came out in support of the VEX Robotics tournament on Saturday!  What a great showing of support to run this event! I hope we don’t leave anyone out-thank you Laura, Sarah, Joanne, Ashley, Regina, Michelle, Jill, Mike, Amanda, Melissa, Janelle, Marisa, Tammi, Janae, Jessica and Kasey for your help and support!

Information for Students

Stop by Kapolei Hale this Holiday Season to see the Christmas Trees on display!  You will be delighted to see Ho‘okele’s tree decorated with origami ornaments created by some of our student council officers and reps!

Special recognition goes out to Kainoa Battad.  Kainoa, a 4th grader, was honored last week by HPD because of his generous gesture to donate gifts using his Kids with Cops award.  We would like all of you to follow Kainoa’s outstanding lead by doing at least 1 random act of kindness for someone during this holiday season.  Working together and caring for others will help make our world a better place, starting right here at Ho‘okele!

PLEASE DO NOT WALK ACROSS THE PIKO.  The Piko is the center of our campus and to help keep it looking nice and green we are asking everyone to walk AROUND the area and not THROUGH it.  Thank you!

CONGRATULATIONS to Ms. Wong’s 2nd grade class for earning the most GOTCHA points!  They have earned 5 minutes of extra recess!

GREAT job to our 5th grade students for their remarkable science projects! What a great learning experience with outstanding presentations!

Good Luck to our Dance Teams who will be competing this Friday at Ilima Intermediate School!
