Updates for Week of August 14, 2017
Information for Faculty and Staff
Congratulations on surviving the first week of school!
We are in our 3rd year at Ho’okele with about 80 more kids than last year and about 300 more kids than our 1st year. Some of our routines will take longer to get into place with all of the extra students to care for. Thank you for being flexible in helping us establish lining up procedures, cafe procedures, recess expectations and assisting students with after school pick up areas. We welcome any help after school or before school with helping to monitor the drop off, waiting and pick up areas. Monday will be the first full day for all K students, so extra help is always appreciated!
Our Welcome Back Assembly is THIS WEEK on Monday, August 14. Seating. Please leave only a narrow center aisle and fit as many students as possible in 1 row. This will be a full cafeteria with all students! Can’t wait to see how we all look on the big screen!!
Daryl will be forwarding the list of students who will be starting Monday for A+. Please be sure to check the list and remind students! A+ was supposed to contact parents about Monday’s start date, but please do not assume students will remember!!
Bricks 4 Kidz programs start next week. A list was emailed last week and I will send updates once they inform us of any new enrollees or changes. More flyers for their program will also be coming out this week if you have any parents asking. Our own after school programs will start later this quarter or 2nd quarter.
Please prepare students for our first fire drill this week Thursday. Do not take students outside until the fire bell rings, however, it is OK to prep them so they know what to do. We will have cones set out to show you where to line up. Remind students to walk quickly and quietly in a fire drill. The bells are loud, so please prepare students to not yell, scream or talk over the fire bells.
Opening School Year Packet acknowledgements are due by Thursday! Please refer to my email from August 10 about how to access intranet on DOE site.
If you have not done so, please complete HEP B Vaccination survey.
Enjoy your week! Just 4 days this week! We can do this-and then we get a 3 day weekend!
Please note changes and adjustments may be made. We will keep you informed, but if you see any errors or have questions about what is on the blog-contact Mindy for clarification.

Information for Students
We look forward to greeting you at our Welcome Back Assembly Monday, August 14! It will be a Good Time! Here are some reminders for behaviors expected at assemblies:
Welcome KINDERGARTENERS! Enjoy your first full days of school this week!
Great job last week during the first week of school! We were impressed with how you showed that you CARE for yourselves, others and our school! Your teachers have done a great job at teaching you routines-and you have done a great job as we make adjustments in the cafeteria and recess!
I did notice some of you showing behavior at recess that was not what we expect. Pushing and shoving to get certain equipment, hiding equipment, and not sharing and taking turns. The number 1 rule at recess is safety first. If what you are doing is not safe, don’t do it. If what you are doing is unkind, consider how that makes others feel and treat others the way you would want to be treated. The equipment provided is a privilege-and if not treated or used appropriately, it will be taken away.
Remember to always demonstrate our Tribes Agreements and GLOs no matter where you are on campus. Remember to be a community contributor and help each other out. In the cafeteria-if you drop something on the floor, do your best to clean it up! You can be a community contributor at recess-if you see someone not playing, ask them to join you or your group! Share equipment and take turns! If you notice rubbish on the ground-you can help pick it up! It takes all of us working together to achieve great things for our school community!
Please be sure you know where your parents will pick you up after school.
