Updates for Week of February 6, 2017

Information for Faculty
We have another week with many subs on campus this week.  We know it is sometimes difficult to find preferred subs, but we do ask you to try and prearrange subs as often as possible to ensure better quality.  We had many subs last week who either came late or left early and even a no show. Most that we had concerns with are not on our preferred list, so therefore were just call-ins to TSEAS.  While it would be great to ban all of the less than satisfactory ones, we do have to provide them with due process when there are concerns and we cannot block them from TSEAS without going through the proper channels.  The “do not use” subs were names provided by district as they had gone through that process.  However, please do document any concerns with subs on the blue forms so we can make recommendations and follow through as appropriate.
Some things we can do are:
  • Prearrange subs in advance as soon as you know you will be out
  • Make sure  lesson plans are clear on expectations and responsibilities (including yard duty, after school time, etc.)
  • Manually enter the start and end times of 7:45-2:45 pm (The default is 8:00-3:00 pm)
  • Remind students about the expectations and consequences of misbehavior
Thanks for your assistance with this.  We want you to feel comfortable when you are away from your class knowing they are in good capable hands!

Information for Students
Be sure to sign up for after school programs if you are interested no later than Wednesday morning! The spaces are filling up fast- already 100 students turned in applications.   If you attend a program, you must attend all 3 says of the week.  We hope to bring you even more opportunities coming this quarter and 4th quarter if you do not get in to classes this session.

Last week it was very disappointing to see the student behavior when your classes had substitute teachers.  It does not appear that you all follow your behavior expectations when your teacher is not around.  We hope that this week the behavior will be different if your teacher is out.

Character is very important.  You need to remember that as Ho’okele students, your behavior represents all of us-in your classes, on the bus and in the community.  When people see you wearing a Ho’okele shirt-they know what school you are from.  What do you want them to think about our school and our students?  Your true character is how you act when no one is around or no one is looking.  Are you good and do you follow the rules?  Or do you try to get away with things that you know are wrong?  Let’s work on representing our school in a positive way so we can all be proud to be from Ho’okele.

Have  a Great Week!
