Updates for the Week of May 4, 2026

This week we take time to share small tokens of appreciation for faculty and staff.  These gestures are merely symbols of what we feel in our hearts every day when we see your dedication to students at Ho‘okele.  Together,  you create spaces where students feel seen, heard and valued.  You push through challenges and foster growth in our learning community not only for students but for our professional teams as well.   And through that dedication, you strengthen our bonds as a Ho‘okele family.   From the Administration Team, We THANK each of you for doing your part,  often above and beyond. We are very grateful.

All Faculty and Staff Appreciation from Administration Mahina Made Shirts are being provided to ALL Ho‘okele faculty and staff.  If you did not pick one up last week, please stop by the office to claim this special edition Ho‘okele shirt! Lunch will be provided to All Faculty and Staff this Friday in the “Glow forge Room” (Across from the Cafeteria).

Teacher Appreciation from PTA and Student Council Teachers, Check your emails for information about goodies that will be provided to you on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday in your PLC rooms from our PTA!  You’ll also receive a special gift on Wednesday from our Student Council.

This Wednesday is School Nurse Day!  Mahalo to Sherri Shimamoto, our SHA who supports our sick keiki on a daily basis and tends to their injuries and illnesses with care. Sherri manages an average of 400-600 students per month in the health room from conditions ranging from rashes to fevers to head injuries and everything in between. Additionally, Mahalo to Jasmine who is able to service our students in her role as a Hawaii Keiki Nurse. We benefit from the skilled nursing services of Nurses Micaela, Elaine and Mary Ann who support students on our campus with specialized needs that allow them to participate in their academics and educationally related activities without missing a beat! We appreciate this incredibly supportive school health personnel team!  They have really become part of our family!

New Hihimanu On the Move classes start this week and will take place on the following dates: Tuesdays & Thursdays, May 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, & 21, 2:10 - 3:00 PM Fit & Movement Class - Keri Collier, Grades 1-2, Room D104 Dance Workshop - Melissa Brown & Ron Baraoidan, Grades 2-5, Cafe (please ask A+) Ms. Zigan will also be conducting Art Club on Tuesdays.

We start SBA this week and have a special kick off rally on Monday!  Grade 5 has a slight adjustment to their schedule for SBA, missing the first class only, and starting at 9:55 am. This is the last week for Resources and PLCs, with the exception of Grade 1 who has a make up session on Friday 5/15.  Resource teachers have been asked to provide grade input by 5/20. Thank you to Kari Zigan, Katrina Kubo, Kumu Robert (Lopeti) Mokiao, La’akea Laimana, Rita Wilcox, and Sheila Tomas for providing our resource classes this school year.  This team worked exceptionally well together and most navigated through learning not only about our school in one year, but how to adjust and teach to all ages of students from K-5.  This is not an easy challenge!  Mahalo Resource Team!
