Updates for the Week of October 20, 2025

Happy New Week!

If you signed up for the November 3rd and/or 4th Trainings for CPR, AED and NARCAN trainings, they are being planned for after school in the library.  There is a slight change for the CPR training as you will not get a certificate and it will be the hands-only CPR training.  If you are unable to attend or if you did not sign up and would like to attend, please contact VP Pamatigan or Sherri Shimamoto to update your RSVP.  Thank you!

11/3 (CPR and AED at 2:15) and

11/4 (NARCAN at 2:15)

As a reminder, this is optional and for your own knowledge and benefit.

Reminders:

From Mike:  Student chairs must be placed on student desks by the end of the day. This helps ensure that room floors will be thoroughly cleaned. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know. Thank you in advance for your understanding and support.

After School Tutoring is coming soon!

Wear Orange for Unity Day this Wednesday!  Here are some additional resources from the DOE if you wish to use them:  2025 Bullying Prevention Month and Unity Day Landing Page

As we approach PT conferences, please note that we will be ending resource classes and PLCs at either 12:40 or 12:50, starting October 21.  Your grade level will miss either the last 1 or 2 rotations.  You may request time with the resource teachers to make up the missed time as needed on another day.

Raina (Magic School Resource) is a great tool to help you script out your conferences or even address potential challenging conversations with parents that you may anticipate.  Here are some general tips from Raina:

  1. Prepare Ahead
Review student work, progress, and notes. Have specific examples ready.

  2. Set a Positive Tone
Greet parents warmly and start with strengths before discussing challenges.

  3. Be Clear and Specific
Share concrete examples of student progress and areas for growth.

  4. Listen Actively
Encourage parents to share their insights and concerns.

  5. Collaborate on Solutions
Discuss strategies and set realistic goals together.

  6. Keep it Time-Managed
Respect the scheduled time; stay focused on key points.

  7. Provide Resources
Offer tips, materials, or contacts to support student learning at home.

  8. Follow Up
Send a summary or plan after the conference and keep communication open.

You can also type in prompts such as:

-How can I address concerns from a worried parent?

-How can I address a parent who thinks their child is being bullied but they aren’t?

-How can I get a helicopter parent to give their child more independence?

Try out some specific questions based on needs for your students to give you some conversation starters.

Update on Computer Science for Quarter 2:  We are working on the curriculum with Ms. Wilcox on Coding.org over the next couple of weeks with the additional time during PT conference weeks.  We will have an update after those sessions for all grade levels.  Much progress has been made this past week in getting the classes set up and getting Rita connected to the resources needed to implement the courses.  We thank you all for your patience as we go through the many steps involved in the process.

See you Friday night at Trunk or Treat!!

Don’t see your birthday?  Did you fill out this form?  This is the Personnel Data form that helps us keep information that only the office and admin use for emergencies (and to acknowledge birthdays).  If you do not wish us to acknowledge your birthday, please let us know and we will not share, however we do ask that all staff members complete the form so we can have your emergency contacts and vehicle information.

Thank you!
