Updates from Principal Rankie 9/5/2025 Notice of Public Hearing (No Ka Oi Liquor Licensing): On September 25, a hearing will be held concerning a "Food Mart" seeking a liquor license in the lot adjacent to Ho‘okele. Please note that the Honolulu Liquor Commission has the authority to deny a liquor license to any establishment located within 500 feet of a school. If you are comfortable doing so, please use the provided document to submit testimony in opposition to this application. Testimony must be submitted by September 19 and can be emailed to liquor@honolulu.gov. The recommended subject line for your email is: Testimony for Application No. 25-00735, IES Retail, LLC FYI, we will be sending out this communication to our families this evening regarding the same topic. On Monday, September 8, Ho‘okele grades 3-5 are scheduled to take the Panorama SEL survey. To help you and your students prepare for the survey we are highly suggesting that you complete the following: Ensure you can log into your Panorama site Teach the Mini Vocab lesson: The purpose of these slides is to support students in practicing and understanding the language that they will see on the student survey.  Slides 3-9 walk students through common language they’ll see in the answer choices.   Slides 11-21 highlight specific words that will be in the survey questions. Throughout the deck you’ll see some “Let’s Practice” sections to give students a chance to answer a question using these new words. Use these to gauge understanding and reteach as needed. Review the student instructions prior to administering the survey. Survey Instructions for students Print out the Proctor Script and review before Monday Consider reading the questions out loud to the class to ensure that all students complete the survey. If you have any students whose parents have opt out of the survey( you will be notified prior) to have alternate work for them to do during the survey time. During our Suicide Prevention Training, Susan Shinkawa mentionned the Employee Assistance Program.  The program offers support if you are facing  problems that may be affecting your job performance or are becoming  more than you can handle. If you are in need of a professional counselor to assist you, then call Employee Assistance of the Pacific (EAP), an employee assistance program sponsored by the Hawaii State Department of Education (Department). This program has been extended through 6/30/2026. See the attached flyer for more details. Another copy was also emailed to families last week.

iReady Reports and SBA Family Portal Information: You should have received the following student reports in your PLC rooms: i-Ready Family Reports for Grades 1-5 SBA Family Portal Information for Grades 4 and 5 only Please distribute these reports to the students in your class on Monday, September 8th. A message will be sent to all families that day to let them know the reports are coming home.
