Updates for Week of February 1, 2021

With the announcement in the parent letter sent out last Friday , we are moving forward with plans to start blended learning on 2/9/2021 with our kindergarten students. We truly appreciate all of your patience, feedback and flexibility as we work out the details on how to make this happen safely and successfully.  There are many moving parts and will likely be adjustments along the way.  However, we could never do it without all of you and your support!  We will be working more closely with each grade level and department to share the specific details on procedures as they are finalized this week and in upcoming weeks.  The Parent Handbook has helpful information and we do have many things already mapped out, so please do not hesitate to ask any questions that you or parents may have.     VACCINE INFORMATION:  Did you register??  Per last week’s email, to help expedite the administration process, HIDOE employees wanting access to the vaccine should fill out the brief survey below by January 15 .  If you did not fill out the survey by last week Friday, you can still submit it and your name will be turned in to DOH on a rolling basis.   HIDOE Staff Vaccination Survey: https://bit.ly/COVID-19-Vaccination-Survey   For active HIDOE Substitute Teachers: http://bit.ly/COVID-19-Vaccination-Survey-Substitutes Tammi sent out a school survey as well for everyone to indicate if you do or do not want the vaccine.  Be sure to complete the DOE survey above if you WANT the vaccine.  We will keep you updated as we get new information on the vaccination dates, locations and process. We would like to officially welcome our new staff for the cafeteria and custodial crew.  Welcome our new cafeteria manager, Star Jumawan.  We also have a new cafeteria helper, Yvette Hamalian. Leoni Devera will be joining the custodial staff starting Monday.  Welcome to Ho‘okele! This is an important week as we review all relevant data for decisions to be made regarding our learning model moving forward.  We have been watching the numbers carefully and speaking to our neighboring schools in the community.  Whatever is decided will require a lot of planning and coordination to make any transitions and changes successful and smooth.  We thank you in advance for your patience and professionalism as we work everything out! Happy New Year! Following Governor David Ige's announcement on Dec. 29 that furloughs for state employees will not begin until July 1, 2021 at the earliest, the Department will postpone any furlough dates in accordance with this new timeline. As a reminder, Monday, Jan. 4, was previously reinstated as a teacher workday.   All salaried employees are to return to work on Monday, January 4th. We hope your 2021 is off to a great start and look forward to seeing you all this week!   This Week Monday 1/4/2021 Teacher Work Day No School for Students (Return to work for Staff) Tuesday 1/5/2021 Student classes resume (on-line and in-person!)
