We are so excited to be back for our 5th year as a Ho‘okele family!  Welcome back to our returning staff and welcome to our new staff! You will be getting a lot of information this week through our Reading Comprehension Professional Development as well as all information needed for the opening of school.  As you know, much can change during the first few weeks of school, so check the blog, your email and calendars often for updates. If you have any questions or see discrepancies, please ask! 

Our Staff Welcome Back Breakfast and Activity is this Friday 8/2/2019 from 7:45-9:30 am.  Please come early for breakfast as our activity will be starting at 8:15 am.

Please complete the Personnel Data Card for the office/administrative use:  2019-2020 Personnel Data Card.

The OSYP (Opening of School Year Packet) was emailed to all staff on July 16.  The email includes attachments and links with action required by August 15, 2019.  If you do not see that email, contact VP Melinda Pamatigan.  Hard copies of the packet and the acknowledgement sheets will be available to you on Wednesday July 31, 2019 in the library.  Please note teachers must watch the EES video prior to August 5, 2019. On August 7, we will be reviewing much of the OSYP information as well as other policies and information you will need this school year.  The Emergency Handbooks are being updated and will be provided to you by next week. Here is a link to our emergency policies and procedures for your review:  Ho‘okele Crisis Management Plan.  Please be aware of emergency procedures and routes from day 1.

It is very important to establish your rules and expectations from the first day of school.  Take advantage of the resources we have available. This is our Tribes PBIS Behavior Expectations that our ECSSS tribe worked on.  You can use this as you develop your classroom rules and go over expectations for students across all school settings.  A finalized version will be printed and provided to classrooms when it has been completed. 
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) for SY19-20

This year to better assist teachers with implementing our SEL curriculum, Second STEP, and our Bully Prevention program,  the scheduled lessons to be implemented will be posted in the weekly Admin Blog. Counselors will also attend PLC at various times in the school year to help with reviewing lessons and monitoring implementation.  A Google Folder has also been created with links for the lessons for those of you who like to plan ahead!  To access the links in the folder you will have needed to create an account and registered your Second Step and BPU kits.  The folder has the scheduled lessons for only quarter 1.

You may also want to use  Introductory Lesson: Class Rules  from the Bully Prevention Unit to help with this.

Second STEP and Bully Prevention kits will be passed out to the new teachers/classrooms during teacher work days. If you have questions please email Elizabeth Okamoto, Counselor.

Welcome Back Assembly Seating is for Monday’s assembly in the cafeteria.  Seating will be tight; but assembly will be short!  Gr. K-2 iPad switch will take place after the assembly.  See Jill’s email she will send out tonight. 
Cafeteria Seating assignments are linked.  It is highly recommended to monitor your seating arrangements and assign student seating at your tables to minimize potential issues between students while they are in the cafeteria.  Make sure you have an assigned table wiper.

Their dedication and support extend far beyond the expected, touching every corner of our school.
