Updates for Week of December 17, 2018

Information for Faculty and Staff Best wishes and Aloha to Ms. Haruka Nzegwu who is moving with her family to Japan!  We also bid a fond Aloha to Ms. Lene Bernardo who is heading off to a new position! The last day for both is Friday 12/21.  We will miss you both very much! As a reminder, Friday December 12/21 is a full work day for faculty and staff.   Don’t forget we have a full school day on Wednesday.  Students get out on Friday at 12:52! ***Mr. Jared Yamamoto will be Teacher-in-Charge on Monday as admin will be attending a training. Thank you to grade 5 teachers for planning last Friday’s holiday party and cookie exchange-it was a fun end to a busy week! Information for Faculty and Staff IMPORTANT:  ALL Employees need to follow instructions provided to you on auto-pay NO LATER THAN Dec. 14.  If you did not get the instructions, please see Dollinda ASAP. There are computers in the library that can be used-as a reminder you must be on our DOE faculty server.  Thank you to Daryl and Jill who have been sending email updates and reminders to help ease you through this process! The first grade classes have been participating in a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) module which integrates the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematics by using scientific inquiry and engineering design as unifying processes. PLTW emphasizes innovation and the development of problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration skills. Information for Faculty and Staff IMPORTANT:  ALL Employees need to follow instructions provided to you on auto-pay starting Dec. 3-14.  If you did not get the instructions, please see Dollinda ASAP. The 1st graders are doing a Project Based Learning Unit to help them understand the importance of reading and how we apply reading in our everyday life. The 1st graders discovered there's a need to provide more books in all PK-5 classrooms at our school. We are hosting a Book Drive to collect NEW or GENTLY USED books that will be distributed to the K-5 classrooms at Ho‘okele Elementary School! Information for Faculty and Staff We Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Weekend!  Welcome Back! Congratulations to our November/December Hihimanu of the month-Ms. Liane Tanigawa!  Thanks Liane for all you do for your colleagues!! Thank you for preparing your students for their outstanding participation in our school Safety Week.  We will be reviewing and sharing feedback with you and also sharing feedback to parents from the PTA sign waving to help ensure and encourage safety practices at our school.  Overall-the drills went well and showed our readiness for emergencies. They also helped us identify what areas we may need to consider for future drills and preparation.
