Updates for Week of November 14, 2016
Information for Teachers
For your information and planning, Mrs. Dunn will be off campus this week Monday and Tuesday.
November 15-18 RTI for everyone this week!
As we move into the holiday season, many of your classes and grade levels are planning events for class celebrations. As we did want to re-emphasize our wellness policy and guidelines, please consider having healthy options on your sign up sheets for potlucks and/or celebrations. Another suggestion is that if food items are brought in that are outside of the guidelines, sometimes the portion size can bring them closer to meeting some of the criteria. For example, a small cupcake with no or little icing or portion of a cupcake would provide less calories and sugar per serving than a large cupcake with a giant heap of icing. Hmmm...I see some interactive math lessons here!!! Thanks for considering this in your planning.
Please review emails from Mike regarding requirements for fire inspection which is Monday 11/21! Clutter is easily correctable but highly noticed by HFD. Be sure entries and exits and access to fire pull stations and extinguishers are unobstructed. New fire maps were placed in your rooms by your primary fire exit door. Please make sure you have a new map (has a YOU ARE HERE Sticker). If you do not, please let Mindy know ASAP.

Information for Students
We hope you had a nice long weekend and are looking forward to a long week!
Student council has shared some concerns with administration on behalf of YOU! Here is some of the information from those discussions:
Issue: It was requested by a student that the temperature in the cafeteria be made warmer as some students feel it is too cold.
Update: We have raised the temperature by 2 degrees to keep it at 70. Hopefully that will help make it more comfortable without making it too warm for the large space. We will monitor to see if it makes a difference for you.
Issue: Students would like to play kickball at recess.
Update: Mrs. Pamatigan has some concerns about the rough play and students who are currently not following recess expectations. To bring back kickball, students need to show they can follow rules and expectations and be responsible and fair in game play. There are current concerns with how students are playing hoop ball and not freezing or walking when the bell rings or whistle blows. We will review expectations with grade levels and look for improvement. When those things are seen-we will consider bringing back an adult-led kickball game ONLY on the days when resource teachers can supervise and monitor the game. You should not create a student led game until it is determined that rules will be followed in a fair manner.
Issue: Classroom air conditioning in grade 3 class
Update: Our most current information indicates that the repair needed for the AC to begin to work again includes a new electrical panel. Our estimated time frame is to have the part in 1 week and the repair to be completed shortly after that. We are continuing to monitor this and work with the teacher to help make sure students have a comfortable learning environment. Currently students are in another classroom where the AC is working.
I am impressed with students expressing their voice and want to let you know you have been heard!
Have a great week!
