Updates for week of August 31, 2015

Hi Everyone, Happy 1 month anniversary!  Congratulations!! Fire Drill is planned for Monday!  Apologies for the unplanned alarms last week.  Hopefully this issue will be resolved quickly.  Good to know students are quick to get up and line up for evacuating when they hear the bell!  See last week’s bulletin for reminders... If it is raining, we will likely reschedule as we want you to practice the regular route to the playground for this drill and not go through the inside of the buildings.   Please purchase lunch from cafeteria as often as possible!  The amount of lunches served helps us to keep our current staffing! Please turn in a weekly schedule to the office showing your daily agendas by September 11.  This will help us to know where your class is at all times should we need to find you or a student in your class. Here is a sample (you can use any format you wish), be sure to include any locations that you are other than your cl...

Updates for Week of August 24, 2015

Hi Everyone, Next week we will be practicing our fire drill.  Please note this will be a modified drill as our grass evacuation area is still off limits to us (unless there is a real emergency).  Please review the evacuation plan with your students this week and know which exit you are to use.  They will exit out all 3 gates on each entrance to the playground area and move quickly.  For this first drill, we will have them line up in their recess line up area.  Grade levels that overlap, please line up older classes behind the younger classes. Inside your emergency bags, you will find your All Clear signs and more detailed information for non classroom teachers and staff for fire drill.  You will also have an orange vests.  Please wear your orange vest when on yard duty.  The crisis handbooks will be completed and bags will be distributed this week. Also, it is important to move around your area during yard duty.  Please do not remai...

Updates for Week of August 17, 2015

Hi Everyone, Please keep all homework forms for your students as well as the signed audio visual forms.  Turn in the McKinney-Vento forms to the office. If you have not done so, please turn in your acknowledgement forms to VP.  Check the intranet if you have misplaced your forms. As a reminder, we need assistance in the cafeteria until our of our adults supervisors are cleared to work.  If you have lunch yard duty, please report to the cafeteria to help walk students to the playground at the start of recess.  It would also be very helpful to have students use the restrooms prior to lunch.  Especially for grades K and 1, it is difficult to monitor the bathrooms and cafeteria.   Welcome to Ho‘okele!   We officially welcome Jodee Spencer in grade 3, Deanna Luck in grade 1, Janelle Cuajunco as our PCNC and 3 of out PTTs-Lisa Corney, PE for grades K-2, Yvette Young, Hawaiian Studies for grades K-2 and Natalie Capino for grades K-2. Updates for Week of August 10, 2015

Hi Everyone, Please complete and turn in your acknowledgement forms for your Opening School Year packet and required videos by Friday. Your emergency bags and plans will be distributed this week.  Thank you for your patience and your problem solving to get assistance to your classrooms.  Your bag will contain emergency red cards, however phone is usually the fastest way to get help quickly. Thank you for your quick adjustments for rainy day recess last week.  We should now have access to the courts which will help provide an alternative for us.  An indoor recess may still be called, however if students are outside when it starts to rain or if the fields are wet, we may use the court to keep them outside for recess. Starting this week, we will have some structured activities in Laulima (line walks, walking laps, etc.) until we get our recess equipment and can set areas for various activities such as basketball, jump ropes, hula hoops, and quiet reading or...

Updates for Week of August 3, 2015

Hi Everyone, We are grateful to Campbell Estates for the donation to our school of $25,000 that will go into our local school account.  The Estate gave $250,000 to schools in Kapolei complex and other schools at the Mele and Hula this past weekend. Our Gotcha program will begin this week.  Homeroom teachers will have an envelope for ticket collection and a starter packet of tickets with instructions.  Non homeroom teachers and staff will receive instructions and tickets.  I look forward to starting this program to help remind us to recognize our students’ positive behaviors. For our morning procedures, lower grade teachers with Piko door entrances may allow students in through the Piko doors at 7:45 am.  Students with classrooms with interior doors will be escorted inside the building at 7:45 am.  For afternoon, If you have a piko door, please dismiss the students through that door after school to help decrease the congestion of all students bei...
